Job summary

Hawthorn Children's Psychiatric Hospital is seeking a Senior Support Care Assistant to provide direct care to children and adolescents with mental illness. The role emphasizes teamwork, leadership, and compassionate daily support in a structured setting.

Responsibilities include assisting with activities of daily living, monitoring vitals, record-keeping, and potential medication administration under supervision. The position requires physical stamina and reliable supervision of care activities.

Qualifications

• Possession of a high school diploma or GED is required.
• One or more years of work experience or self-employment is preferred.
• Ability to perform lifting 45 lbs and other physical tasks is required.
• Direct care experience with children/adolescents is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assist individuals with activities of daily living.
• Check vital signs and height/weight as assigned.
• Collect and maintain records of fluid intake and output.
• Report on the condition of the individuals to supervisors.
• Participate in rehabilitation, ambulation and transfers.
• Prepare, administer and chart medications under professional supervision when needed.
• Transport individuals in state vehicles to appointments and activities.
• Assist with staff scheduling as needed.
• Report complaints to immediate supervisor.
• Demonstrate leadership and team-building abilities.
