Job summary

Daikin Applied seeks an Engineering Data Scientist & Digital Twin Specialist in Plymouth, MN to develop ROMs and hybrid digital twins for predictive maintenance and real-time analytics. The role blends high-fidelity simulations with ML, integrating IoT data and deploying models across production and edge platforms.

Ideal candidates hold 6+ years in ML, scientific computing, or physics-based simulation, with proficiency in Python/C++, and experience with tools like Ansys Twin Builder, Siemens

Qualifications

• Master’s or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, or a related technical discipline
• 6+ years of industry/research experience in applied ML, scientific computing, or physics-based simulation
• Proven track record of building and deploying ROMs (POD, DMD, ML surrogates)
• Proficiency in Python and/or C++
• Experience with engineering simulation software (Ansys Twin Builder, Siemens Simcenter, MATLAB/Simulink, OpenFOAM/FEA)
• Experience with time-series databases, IoT data streams, and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Strong communication, leadership, and cross-functional collaboration

Responsibilities

• Reduced Order Modeling (ROM): Develop, calibrate, validate ROMs from complex 3D/multiphysics simulations
• Hybrid Digital Twin Development: Design and implement physics-informed AI-driven digital twins
• Data Integration & Pipelines: Ingest and preprocess high-frequency telemetry and IoT data
• Deployment & Scaling: Package ROMs for production, cloud, or edge deployments
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with engineers, software developers, and data engineers
• Model Validation: Conduct regression testing and data correlation against physical models
