Job summary

Daikin Applied Americas seeks a Senior Development Engineer III to develop 1D system models for HVAC products in a hybrid Plymouth, MN setting. You will calibrate, deploy and maintain models; interface Modelica with Simulink and FMI/FMU; and advance simulation automation and AI/ML integration.

You will contribute to cross-functional MBE efforts, build reusable libraries, and mentor engineers while supporting tiered design maturity across milestones.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 6+ years of relevant experience (or MS 4+ years; PhD with related work).
• Strong thermodynamic knowledge for HVAC and both steady-state and dynamic behavior.
• Proficiency in Julia, Python, MATLAB, or R with tool development.

Responsibilities

• Develop, calibrate, and validate steady-state and dynamic models of HVAC systems.
• Build libraries and development frameworks for simulation and tool integration.
• Interface Modelica models with Simulink, Python, and FMI/FMU for MiL workflows.
• Collaborate with global MBE teams to standardize tooling and libraries.
• Support product development stages and model lifecycle governance.
• Explore ML/AI to accelerate calibration and surrogate modeling.
