Job summary

Freedom of the Press Foundation (FPF) is hiring a senior digital security trainer to conduct in-field training with journalists and newsrooms. Reporting to the deputy director of digital security, you will join a team that provides trainings, consultations, and security audits for diverse clients.

The role includes developing curricula, contributing to guides and newsletters, and, in the long term, training SecureDrop clients on installation and use.

Qualifications

• Passion for the First Amendment and press freedom
• Bachelor's degree or four years cybersecurity awareness training experience
• 1+ year newsroom/journalist experience or equivalent threat-model understanding
• 2–3 years of training technical topics to nontechnical audiences
• Experience creating training materials on technical topics
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Familiarity with journalistic threat models
• Knowledge of encryption principles and secure communication tools
• Understanding of OS on desktop and mobile
• Ability to work independently and with teams in person and remotely
• Willingness to travel internationally a few times per year

Responsibilities

• Lead digital security trainings on risk assessment, password managers, MFA, encrypted communications, online privacy, device security, and harassment mitigation
• Coordinate with team to meet client needs from intake to follow-up
• Help develop curricula and supporting materials for trainings
• Contribute to guides, blogs, and newsletters
• Long-term: train SecureDrop clients on installation and use
• Perform other duties as assigned by the deputy director of digital security
