Job summary

Knight's Companies in Summerville, SC is seeking a Diesel Technician Level III to join our maintenance team. The role involves diagnosing and repairing a diverse fleet, guiding Diesel Technicians I and II, and ensuring safe, high-quality workmanship across all tasks.

You will service tires, perform oil/filter changes on varied equipment, diagnose electrical systems, and maintain hydraulic and power systems. Travel for on-site repairs is required with a focus on safety and documentation.

Qualifications

Valid Driver’s License required.
High School Diploma/GED preferred.
Auto or diesel technology diploma from an accredited technical school preferred; or minimum of 5 years’ experience performing maintenance or mechanical ability.
ASE Certifications preferred.
Commercial Driver’s License Class A or B preferred.
Ability to operate a manual transmission vehicle to determine if it is operating properly.
Must provide own hand tools & toolbox.
Knowledge of handheld scanning tools and the process of diagnosing vehicles.
Ability to read schematics and familiarity with the process.
Proficient computer skills: Excel, Word, Fleet Management Systems, and Email.
Strong written and verbal communication skills (documentation, communication with peers, supervisors, etc.)

Responsibilities

Change and repair tires in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
Perform oil and filter services on a variety of vehicles including automobiles, concrete trucks, tractor-trailers, front-end loaders, and other equipment.
Conduct diagnostics and repairs on electrical systems, ranging from auxiliary components such as lighting and switches to complex 12V and 24V electrical architectures on fleet trucks and heavy machinery.
Assess and maintain power and hydraulic systems to ensure proper operation and safety standards.
Assist and provide guidance to Diesel Technicians I and II, supporting team efforts and knowledge sharing.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs performed.
Adhere to safety protocols and ensure all work is completed in compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Perform service calls to diagnose and repair off-site trucks and equipment using company service vehicle.
Provide on-site repair services by traveling to plant facilities and vehicle locations.
Diagnose and repair universal, slip joints, support bearings on drive shafts, air and hydraulic brake systems and pressurized water systems.
Work closely with Area Fleet Manager to maintain positive workflow throughout the shop.
Other duties as assigned.
