Job summary

Helion Energy is seeking a senior Materials Scientist to develop and evaluate dielectric materials for high-voltage components in an advanced fusion reactor. You will lead cross-disciplinary R&D programs, drive material testing under challenging radiation environments, and translate research into scalable, commercially deployable solutions.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in a relevant field (materials science, electrical engineering, physics, nuclear engineering)
• 8+ years of industry experience in R&D for commercial products
• Ability to plan and lead R&D efforts with milestone schedules
• Bias for action, urgency, and rapid prototyping mindset

Responsibilities

• Lead multi-disciplinary projects to develop high-voltage dielectric materials for fusion reactors
• Lead testing campaigns to quantify electrical properties under heat, stress, and radiation
• Review published research and distill insights for non-nuclear engineers
• Operate in dynamic environment, balancing risks with fast delivery
• Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, national labs, and universities to extend capabilities
• Represent Helion at technical meetings and conferences
