Job summary

Berkshire Grey is seeking a Senior DevOps Networking Engineer to design, manage and troubleshoot complex, hybrid environments for robotics-focused systems. You will bridge networking, compute hardware, and cloud-based infrastructure, ensuring secure, scalable operations across multiple platforms.

You will lead global deployments, troubleshoot performance issues, and drive automation using Kubernetes, Terraform, and IaC practices.

Role Description

Robotic systems depend upon fast networks and tend to employ complex architecture with many interconnected components. We utilize some cloud-based infrastructure for communication, data transport, security and other functions, though the majority of the compute occurs on bare metal which is hosted nearby the robotic systems. A Senior DevOps Networking Engineer will design, manage and troubleshoot these complex interconnected systems in hybrid environments for customers and employee innovation systems. The ideal candidate would be able to function as a troubleshooter and communicator to a variety of different professional audiences. They manage and improve the communication between the operational and developmental sides of the software development process. Main duties include configuring production and pre-production compute resources, troubleshooting performance or functional issues, planning compute architecture and testing new ideas. The person in this role will be able to move smoothly between networking, compute hardware, infrastructure as code, cloud and kubernetes environments.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Listen to and guide teams in designing, building, testing and deploying changes to existing environments.
• Manage traditional networking equipment, firmware updates, connectivity and design for customers’ robotic systems
• Troubleshoot and identify root cause with use of packet captures and log analysis on a broad range of problems.
• Cloud efficiency: ensure availability, economy, performance, security, and scalability of AWS / GCP production systems.
• Identify manual processes that can be automated.
• Maintain and improve the company’s cloud infrastructure.
• Evaluation of new technology alternatives and vendor products.
• Envision and design secure and usable systems while gaining shared vision from key stakeholders.
• Providing recommendations for architecture and process improvements.

Requirements

• Able to assist customers with Networking and system troubleshooting in order to resolve robotic system issues.
• Demonstrated competence with Linux Systems Engineering, Networking and Infrastructure as code.
• Troubleshoot code and improve performance, particularly in Kubernetes and Terraform settings.
• Lead global deployments, giving special attention to Kubernetes, Terraform, Juniper networking, and TCP/IP.
• Technical knowledge in several of the following:
  • Juniper / Cisco / Palo Alto / Zscaler
  • Terraform, Kustomize, shell scripting and/or python
  • Linux, Kubernetes -- operating system administration
• Experience with multi-tier architectures: load balancers, caching, web servers, application servers, databases, and networking.
• Bring positive creative energy to the team.
• Clear written and verbal communication.
• Manage your own time and work well both independently and as part of a team
• Experience in creation of highly automated infrastructure
• Participates in an on-call rotation.
