Job summary

Phoenix Ops Group seeks a Senior DevOps Engineer to design, deploy, and automate cloud infrastructure in a mission-centric environment at Fort Belvoir, VA. You will build scalable systems, manage Kubernetes clusters, and streamline CI/CD across development teams.

The role requires strong AWS/Kubernetes experience, IaC expertise with Terraform and Ansible, and DoD 8140/8570 certification or the ability to obtain it. On-site work five days a week.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related technical discipline with 9+ years of relevant experience; OR a master’s degree with 7+ years; OR a high school diploma/equivalent with 13+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience with Kubernetes or comparable container orchestration technologies.
• Hands-on experience with AWS services including EKS, EC2, EBS, S3, and Lambda.
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code and configuration-management tools such as Terraform and Ansible.
• Experience deploying, scaling, managing, and troubleshooting applications, containers, and operating systems.
• Programming or scripting experience using Python, Bash, Go, or similar languages.
• Experience with Git and modern development/deployment tools.
• Strong Linux system administration and troubleshooting skills.
• Understanding of Agile software development practices.
• Current DoD 8140/8570-compliant certification or the ability to obtain one within required timeframe.
• Ability to work onsite at Fort Belvoir, VA, five days per week.

Phoenix Ops Group is seeking an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to support a mission-focused technical environment in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. This position is ideal for a DevOps professional with strong experience supporting cloud infrastructure, containerized environments, automation, CI/CD processes, and Linux-based systems.

The Senior DevOps Engineer will work closely with software development and engineering teams to build, deploy, automate, monitor, and maintain reliable and scalable infrastructure. The successful candidate will have hands-on experience with AWS, Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code technologies, scripting, and modern DevOps practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, deploy, and maintain cloud infrastructure within AWS environments, with a particular focus on Amazon EKS.
• Support deployment and maintenance of on-premises, edge, and portable infrastructure environments.
• Build and improve automated deployment processes to increase reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency.
• Deploy, manage, and troubleshoot Kubernetes-based container environments.
• Partner with software development teams to integrate applications into cloud and infrastructure environments.
• Monitor production systems, identify performance or availability issues, and perform troubleshooting and remediation.
• Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code and configuration-management solutions using tools such as Terraform and Ansible.
• Support CI/CD and automated software deployment processes.
• Administer and troubleshoot Linux-based systems.
• Develop automation and operational tooling using languages such as Python, Bash, or Go.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements to infrastructure, automation, reliability, and performance.
• Support additional technical and operational requirements as mission needs evolve.

Requirements

• Active TS/SCI U.S. Government security clearance.
• U.S. citizenship required due to security clearance requirements.
• Bachelor's degree in a related technical discipline with 9+ years of relevant experience; OR a master’s degree with 7+ years of relevant experience; OR a high school diploma/equivalent with 13+ years of relevant experience.
• Strong experience with Kubernetes or comparable container orchestration technologies.
• Hands-on experience with AWS services, including EKS, EC2, EBS, S3, and Lambda.
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code and configuration-management tools such as Terraform and Ansible.
• Experience deploying, scaling, managing, and troubleshooting applications, containers, and operating systems.

• Current DoD 8140/8570-compliant certification, such as Security+, or the ability to obtain an approved certification within the required timeframe after hire.
• Ability to work onsite at Fort Belvoir, VA, five days per week and travel occasionally as mission requirements dictate.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting big-data or distributed-data technologies such as Hadoop, Accumulo, Ceph, Spark, NiFi, Kafka, PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, Hive, Trino, Presto, or similar platforms.
• Experience with K9s and AWS CLI.
• Familiarity with additional AWS services such as SNS and SQS.
• Experience supporting highly available, mission-critical systems in secure government environments.
