Job summary

Phoenix Operations Group seeks an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to support a mission-focused technical environment in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. You will work with software teams to build, deploy, automate, monitor, and maintain scalable infrastructure in AWS, including EKS, with IaC using Terraform and Ansible.

The role requires a TS/SCI clearance, strong Linux troubleshooting, and scripting in Python/Go. On-site work five days a week with occasional travel enables critical mission support.

Qualifications

• Active TS/SCI U.S. Government security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.
• 9+ years relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 7+ years with a master’s; or 13+ years with high school.
• Strong Kubernetes experience or comparable container orchestration.
• Hands-on AWS experience including EKS, EC2, EBS, S3, and Lambda.
• IaC and configuration management with Terraform and Ansible.
• Experience deploying and troubleshooting applications, containers, and Linux systems.
• Scripting in Python, Bash, or Go; Git and modern dev tools.
• Understanding Agile software development; DoD 8140/8570-compliant certification or ability to obtain.
• On-site Fort Belvoir, VA five days a week; occasional travel.

Phoenix Ops Group is seeking an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to support a mission-focused technical environment in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. This position is ideal for a DevOps professional with strong experience supporting cloud infrastructure, containerized environments, automation, CI/CD processes, and Linux-based systems.

The Senior DevOps Engineer will work closely with software development and engineering teams to build, deploy, automate, monitor, and maintain reliable and scalable infrastructure. The successful candidate will have hands-on experience with AWS, Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code technologies, scripting, and modern DevOps practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, deploy, and maintain cloud infrastructure within AWS environments, with a particular focus on Amazon EKS.
• Support deployment and maintenance of on-premises, edge, and portable infrastructure environments.
• Build and improve automated deployment processes to increase reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency.
• Deploy, manage, and troubleshoot Kubernetes-based container environments.
• Partner with software development teams to integrate applications into cloud and infrastructure environments.
• Monitor production systems, identify performance or availability issues, and perform troubleshooting and remediation.
• Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code and configuration-management solutions using tools such as Terraform and Ansible.
• Support CI/CD and automated software deployment processes.
• Administer and troubleshoot Linux-based systems.
• Develop automation and operational tooling using languages such as Python, Bash, or Go.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements to infrastructure, automation, reliability, and performance.
• Support additional technical and operational requirements as mission needs evolve.

Requirements

• Active TS/SCI U.S. Government security clearance.
• U.S. citizenship required due to security clearance requirements.
• Bachelor's degree in a related technical discipline with 9+ years of relevant experience; OR a master’s degree with 7+ years of relevant experience; OR a high school diploma/equivalent with 13+ years of relevant experience.
• Strong experience with Kubernetes or comparable container orchestration technologies.
• Hands-on experience with AWS services, including EKS, EC2, EBS, S3, and Lambda.
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code and configuration-management tools such as Terraform and Ansible.
• Experience deploying, scaling, managing, and troubleshooting applications, containers, and operating systems.
• Programming or scripting experience using Python, Bash, Go, or similar languages.
• Experience with Git and modern development/deployment tools.
• Strong Linux system administration and troubleshooting skills.
• Understanding of Agile software development practices.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Current DoD 8140/8570-compliant certification, such as Security+, or the ability to obtain an approved certification within the required timeframe after hire.
• Ability to work onsite at Fort Belvoir, VA, five days per week and travel occasionally as mission requirements dictate.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting big-data or distributed-data technologies such as Hadoop, Accumulo, Ceph, Spark, NiFi, Kafka, PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, Hive, Trino, Presto, or similar platforms.
• Experience with K9s and AWS CLI.
• Familiarity with additional AWS services such as SNS and SQS.
• Experience supporting highly available, mission-critical systems in secure government environments.
