AllTrails is seeking a Sr. DevOps Engineer with a security focus to join our infrastructure team and strengthen the security, reliability, and scalability of our systems. The role centers on IaC, CI/CD, and collaboration across engineering, IT, and product teams to protect data and improve developer experiences.

You'll contribute to security reviews, on-call rotations, and cost optimizations while advancing observability and automation in a fast-growing remote-first environment.

Qualifications

• 3+ years managing production workloads in containerized environments.
• 5+ years AWS deployments via IaC with security best practices.
• Proficient with Docker, Kubernetes/ECS, NGINX and at least one language (Python/Go/Ruby).
• Solid understanding of relational databases and SDLC/CI/CD.
• Experience with monitoring/logging tools (Datadog/NewRelic/CloudWatch).
• Self-motivated with strong problem-solving and proactive mindset.

This is a U.S. based remote position. While this role does not require in-person attendance, we have a strong preference for candidates based in or near one of these cities: San Francisco CA, Portland OR, Seattle WA, Denver CO, and New York NY. Being in one of these cities creates opportunities to connect with teammates through Trail Days, co-working sessions, and local gatherings while still having the flexibility to work remotely. San Francisco employees are highly encouraged to come to the office one day per week.

About the role

We are seeking a motivated and skilled Sr. DevOps Engineer, Security to join our infrastructure team. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative individual with a strong sense of ownership and a passion for building and maintaining robust, secure, and scalable systems. This role is integral to enhancing security of our data, reliability of our systems and developer experiences.

Due to high candidate volume and to ensure our hiring team has sufficient time to give every application the attention it deserves, we have set a closing date of July 31st for this position.

What you'll be doing

• Lead and contribute to projects focused on enhancing security, system reliability, release processes, developer experiences, cost optimizations, and observability
• Collaborate with various engineering, IT, and People teams to solve security challenges in infrastructure, CI pipelines, application, endpoint security, AI workloads, and general enterprise security
• Lead and implement our infrastructure-as-code (IaC) and compliance initiatives.
• Participate in security reviews of third-party vendors and services
• Improve the overall developer experiences by refining tools, workflows, and AI usage.
• Contribute to our on-call rotation

What you bring

• A minimum of 3 years of professional experience managing production workloads within containerized environments
• Demonstrated 5 years of experiences with Amazon Web Services (AWS) implementations via Infrastructure as Code with a strong emphasis on security best practices
• Proficiency with Docker, a container orchestration platform (e.g., Kubernetes, ECS), web proxy technologies (e.g., NGINX), and at least one programming language, such as: Python, Go, Ruby
• A solid understanding of relational databases
• Commitment to continuous improvements (picking up new technology stacks).
• Familiarity with the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines
• Experience with monitoring, logging, and metrics-gathering tools such as Datadog, NewRelic, or CloudWatch
• A high degree of self-motivation and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
• The ability to navigate ambiguous situations effectively and a proactive approach to problem-solving
