Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a talented Senior DevOps Engineer (Azure).

Please join SSG’s team in support of a large Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) nationwide program.

Location: Remote

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide maintenance and ongoing development of continuous build/integration infrastructure in Microsoft Azure.
  • Manage source control and documentation.
  • Create and maintain fully automated Continuous Integration (CI) build processes for multiple environments in Microsoft Azure.
  • Write build and deployment scripts using Ansible, Bash, Python, and GitHub Actions.
  • Support Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) tool integration, operations, change management (CM), and maintenance.
  • Support full automation of CI Testing.
  • Support policies, standards, guidelines, governance, and related guidance for both CI/CD operations and for work of developers.
  • Enable successful release management by moving code from Development and Testing environments to Staging and Production.
  • Work closely with software developers, production support, and information security to automate and support infrastructure and tooling in Microsoft Azure.
  • Apply automated deployment tool sets and infrastructure including environments and code management using CI/CD processes.
  • Perform and/or support response activities for operational and security incidents.
  • Provide guidance and apply agile and DevOps/DevSecOps practices to streamline product delivery and reliable operations of products.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to automate and save time.
Required Skills and Experience
  • Must have exceptional communication (verbal/written), interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Must be able to communicate ideas and information effectively to ensure easy understanding and engagement with diverse audiences.
  • Must be a highly motivated, self-directed leader.
  • Must be proficient with Source Control Management best practices and automation tools.
  • Must have expertise with build automation tools, including Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure Pipelines, AWS Codebuild.
  • Prior DevOps, Ansible, Jenkins, Git, GitHub, Tomcat, Azure Pipeline, and Azure DevOps experience.
  • Experience with content management and issue tracking (JIRA).
  • Experience with learning, sharing, and implementing best practices with the ability to establish operational processes, implement DevOps, and deployment checklists.
  • Experience with CI/CD build tools (Jenkins and Ansible).
  • Knowledge of developing solutions in an iterative (Agile) approach.
  • Knowledge of basic networking concepts.
  • Knowledge of system configuration tools and implementation of architectural frameworks.
  • Knowledge of source code control management systems and configuration management (Git).
  • Knowledge of Linux Admin: maintain/upgrade Linux packages, security, networking, performance tuning, system resource management, capacity planning, user process monitoring.
  • An ability to utilize logs (Application Insights, CloudWatch, etc.) to aid in troubleshooting issues.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages, including Linux Scripting (Bash/Shell, Ruby, Perl, Python, or similar).
Professional Certifications

Recent Microsoft Azure DevOps Engineer Expert Certification.

Years of Professional Experience

8 years of relevant DevOps experience. 8 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education. 4 years with CI/CD and support of Microsoft Azure environment.

Desired Experience

Experience working with remote U.S. based teams (Not Offshore teams).

Formal Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, or other engineering or technical discipline.

Citizenship Requirement

U.S. Citizenship required for this specific opportunity.

Security Clearance Requirements

Must possess or qualify for a Public Trust (MBI).
