Qualifications

About the Job

Venatôre is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to strengthen software delivery through automation, operational discipline, and collaboration between development and operations teams. This role will configure and enhance CI/CD pipelines, automate application builds and deployments, manage Infrastructure as Code and configuration management, and improve observability, security, and incident response. The Senior DevOps Engineer will also contribute to complex software and cloud solutions, system architecture, security compliance, and technical documentation to improve scalability, resilience, and long-term operational performance.

This is a full-time position based in Springfield, VA or St. Louis, MO. Work must be performed onsite at the client location within a SCIF; telecommuting is not available. Candidates must possess a current and active TS/SCI security clearance and must be willing and able to obtain a CI Polygraph.

Responsibilities

DevOps & CI/CD

• Configure and maintain CI/CD pipelines for multiple web applications.
• Perform application builds using source code and required dependencies.
• Implement automated testing and security scanning throughout deployment workflows.
• Deploy applications across development, staging, and operational environments.
• Support GitOps-style operations management using tools such as ArgoCD.
• Develop and maintain automation that improves software delivery speed, consistency, and reliability.

Infrastructure & Configuration Management

• Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and configuration management solutions.
• Author Helm charts to deploy resources within OpenShift environments.
• Manage infrastructure and application configurations across multiple environments.
• Support web application networking, including TCP/IP, DNS, certificate management, and load balancing.
• Deploy and manage databases and support application interaction with databases using SQL and object-relational mapping technologies.

Software & Systems Engineering

• Research, design, develop, and modify enterprise cloud solutions and application software.
• Design, develop, code, test, and debug complex software products and significant enhancements to existing applications.
• Develop and apply advanced methods and techniques to resolve complex software application challenges.
• Resolve complex hardware/software compatibility and interface design considerations.
• Conduct complex system investigations and testing.
• Incorporate emerging technologies and product supportability considerations into system design and implementation.
• Contribute code enhancements and updates to existing code repositories.
• Develop application architecture diagrams and support strategic system architecture planning.
• Collaborate with hardware engineering personnel regarding system characteristics that affect software performance and requirements.
• Security, Monitoring & Observability
• Manage and document system security and support security compliance activities.
• Perform software updates and remediation in response to security scan findings.
• Integrate security components with applications and databases.
• Support zero-trust identity implementations and associated authentication and authorization technologies.
• Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, networking, and security capabilities for containerized environments.
• Improve observability and incident response capabilities to accelerate issue detection, troubleshooting, and recovery.

Documentation & Customer Support

• Develop and maintain system and architecture documentation supporting security and operational compliance.
• Provide technical input for user manuals, system documentation, and training materials.
• Prepare reports documenting technical analyses, findings, and project progress.
• Present technical results and recommendations to management and customer personnel.

Required Qualifications

• Current and active TS/SCI security clearance.
• Willingness and ability to obtain a CI Polygraph.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field; two additional years of information technology experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
• 6+ years of directly related professional experience.
• Proficiency with Linux operating systems.
• Experience with CI/CD pipeline technologies such as GitLab, Jenkins, CircleCI, or similar platforms.
• Experience with ArgoCD and GitOps-style operations management.
• Knowledge of OIDC, OAuth, OAuth 2.0, or similar zero-trust identity implementations.
• Experience managing web server technologies, including DNS and certificate management.
• Knowledge of HTTP API design standards and best practices.
• Experience managing web application networking, including TCP/IP, DNS, and load balancing.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes and OpenShift and knowledge of AWS.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code and/or configuration management technologies such as Terraform, OpenShift Container Platform, CloudFormation, AWS CDK, Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.
• Knowledge of monitoring, logging, networking, and security for containerized environments.
• Experience deploying and managing databases and interacting with databases using SQL and ORMs.
• Ability to develop systems tooling using Python and Bash.
• Ability to contribute code updates and enhancements to existing code repositories.
• Experience with software system design and developing application architecture diagrams.
• Experience integrating security components with applications and databases.
• One or more relevant technical certifications, such as Network+, Security+, or CISSP.

Preferred Qualifications

• Current CI Polygraph.
• Experience designing and implementing complex systems in classified environments.
• Experience with system and network creation and development.
• Familiarity with configuration management and Request for Change processes, including review and assessment.
• Experience implementing zero-downtime re-indexing strategies and managing complex Elasticsearch data models within OpenShift or Kubernetes environments.
• Experience with observability technologies such as Prometheus, Thanos, Alloy, Loki, Mimir, Tempo, or Grafana.
• Knowledge of reverse proxy technologies such as Nginx, Traefik, Apache HTTP Server/WebGate, HAProxy, or Envoy.
• Experience in systems engineering and project or program management.
• Knowledge of or experience with NGA enterprise products, including NCE CORE.
