Senior Development Manager (ASAP, Policy think tank)

The Choice is managing an exciting, immediate contract opportunity for our client—a progressive policy think tank. This organization actively forms coalitions and partnerships to oppose executive orders and budget cuts from the new administration that threaten vital programs such as Medicaid, Social Security, and SNAP.

Due to rapid growth in coalitions and partnerships, the organization seeks a contract Senior Development Manager to support development research and strategy during this critical period.

This position is full-time, Monday–Friday, with a hybrid schedule: in-office Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and the first Thursday of each month. The office is located in DC, within walking distance of Metro. This is a long-term contract, at least through the end of this calendar year.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong fundraising experience, particularly with policy organizations
  • Experience managing multiple revenue streams
  • Immediate availability

Job responsibilities include:

  • Researching potential new Board members and recommending connections that could expand networks
  • Researching current leadership's connections to prospective funders
  • Investigating connections of board members to high-net-worth individuals and foundation funders
  • Identifying and qualifying new prospects for funding, including state regranting, policy project funding, and other initiatives

Development Strategy (Cultivation & External Affairs)

  • Exploring revenue opportunities from corporations, B-corps, associations, unions, etc., including potential activities and member benefits
  • Developing outreach strategies to strengthen relationships with funder leaders
  • Identifying thought leadership opportunities with funders through articles, podcasts, and events
  • Creating a cultivation plan aligned with the 2025 tax debate calendar and external events, including organizing trips, conferences, and donor events
  • Supporting the Chief Development Officer with outreach materials, meetings, follow-ups, and research for development meetings
