Job summary

Carbon Containment Lab in New Haven, Connecticut seeks a Development and Communications Associate Director to grow our funding base and amplify our climate solutions story. This senior role combines strategic leadership with hands-on fundraising, donor stewardship, and public-facing communications in partnership with leadership and program staff.

The role drives our multi-year development plan, drafts grant proposals and reports, manages donor relations, and identifies new funding opportunities

Qualifications

• 6–10+ years in development, fundraising, or communications, ideally in climate/policy organizations.
• Proven success securing philanthropic support from foundations and aligned donors.
• Ability to translate complex technical/policy content into clear external communications for non-technical audiences.
• Experience in entrepreneurial, fast-moving environments with ownership and coordination.
• Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
• Strong project management and multiple-deadline prioritization across workstreams.
• Ability to collaborate with technical experts to synthesize content for fundraising.

Responsibilities

• Grow and deepen CC Lab's funding base through strategic development planning.
• Draft and manage grant proposals, donor briefings, reports, and fundraising materials.
• Maintain and advance donor relationships and stewardship plans.
• Identify new funding opportunities in partnership with leadership.
• Strengthen internal systems for tracking proposals, deadlines, and pipeline.
• Represent CC Lab at meetings and events with funding providers and partners.
• Manage strategic communications across website, newsletters, social media, events, and external materials.
• Translate technical topics into accessible donor-facing narratives; draft blogs, impact stories, and talking points.
• Support visibility through conference materials and external announcements.
• Collaborate across program, research, and leadership teams; maintain consistent voice and brand.
• Mentor junior staff or interns and develop systems to track impact and reach.
