Job summary

Fivetran is seeking a Senior Developer Experience Advocate to join the dbt Labs DX team, focusing on enabling dbt developers and building data workflows. You will drive developer experience across products like dbt State, dbt Fusion, dbt Wizard, and the Fivetran connector SDK, while shaping open data infrastructure thought leadership.

You will translate know-how into content, prototypes, community engagement, and product feedback, with AI familiarity and autonomous work style.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in data engineering or analytics engineering with broad data industry knowledge.
• Hands-on dbt experience and practitioner-level proficiency.
• Excellent spoken and written technical communication with published work encouraged.
• Solid fundamentals in Python and SQL; able to contribute to open source codebases.
• Comfort with AI and enthusiasm for applying it to work processes.
• Self-starter who can set priorities and deliver high-quality output with minimal direction.
• Strong product sense and ability to translate user needs into actionable feedback.

Responsibilities

• Design and build prototypes, reference implementations, and example repos to show practical use of tools.
• Create working prototypes to validate product direction and accelerate iteration.
• Develop tooling to reduce friction in analytics engineering workflows.
• Author technical content for blogs, guides, and documentation to help practitioners.
• Publish best practices on data and analytics engineering to establish domain leadership.
• Provide enablement resources for internal teams and the dbt Community; contribute to launches.
• Represent the product area as a community voice across forums and conferences.
• Collect community feedback, surface insights to product teams, and advocate practitioner needs.
• Identify and flag edge cases, regressions, or gaps in the developer experience.
• Maintain and triage open source repos and community projects with emphasis on developer ergonomics.
