Job summary

AMETEK's Advanced Measurement Technology unit is seeking a Senior Research Scientist to provide technical leadership in HPGe detector development and semiconductor fabrication for gamma-ray spectroscopy products in Oak Ridge, TN.

You will lead detector science, optimize performance, collaborate across disciplines, mentor junior staff, and help shape long‑term technology direction from research to manufacturable solutions, with occasional travel as needed.

Qualifications

PhD required in a relevant physical/engineering discipline.
Minimum 8 years in semiconductor detector development or related fields.
Experience with semiconductor fabrication and process techniques.
Strong record of technical accomplishments (patents/publications/conference talks).

Responsibilities

Lead experimental programs for detector materials evaluation and device optimization.
Develop and enhance semiconductor fabrication methods for detectors.
Partner with manufacturing to improve yield, reliability, and testing.
Collaborate with electronics, cryogenic, software, systems, and quality teams to optimize detector systems.
Evaluate new materials, architectures, and external partnerships aligned with product strategy.
Provide technical leadership for detector science and process development.
Represent ORTEC in technical reviews, customer discussions, and roadmap planning.
