Job summary

Slate Auto is seeking a Design Release Engineer for Steering Wheel & Frontal Airbags in Michigan. You will drive development of airbag system components, manage Tier 1 supplier engineers, and ensure targets are met across the vehicle lifecycle by creating and maintaining APQP documentation.

Responsibilities include leading functional and technical requirements, collaboration with internal teams, and certification activities with product development tools to satisfy regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering preferred (ABET accredited or equivalent).
• Master's in engineering preferred.
• 8+ years of Design Release Engineering in Airbags and/or Steering Wheels.
• Direct experience with NHTSA/FMVSS, NCAP, and IIHS crash requirements.

Responsibilities

• Develop functional requirements for steering wheel and frontal airbags systems and components.
• Lead design, development, release and certification with product development tools (CAE, CAD, BOM, DFMEAs, DVP&Rs).
• Manage Tier 1 suppliers and internal cross-functional teams to optimize solutions.
