Job summary

VolkerFitzpatrick, part of VolkerWessels UK, seeks a Senior Design Manager to lead design activities across large water and wastewater schemes. The role requires coordinating multidisciplinary teams and external consultants to deliver design outputs from concept through delivery.

The successful candidate will bring extensive civil engineering and water sector experience, strong programme and stakeholder management, and a proactive approach to value engineering in a complex project environment.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience within civil engineering, infrastructure or water sector projects.
• Strong background in Design Management on major projects.
• Experience managing multidisciplinary design teams and external consultants.
• Excellent understanding of buildability, design coordination and project delivery.
• Strong programme management and stakeholder engagement skills.
• A proactive approach to problem-solving and value engineering.
• Excellent communication and leadership capabilities.
• Degree-level qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Chartered status (CEng, MICE or equivalent) or working towards professional accreditation.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate all design activities across significant water and wastewater infrastructure schemes.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver design outputs from concept to delivery.
• Influence major projects by ensuring buildability, compliance and timely delivery.

Education

Degree level qualification in Civil Engineering

Chartered status (CEng, MICE or equivalent)
