Position Title: Senior Design Manager (Planning)- Asset Management.

Salary Range: $148,000 - $157,000

Location: Onsite (Los Angeles, CA)

Type: Full-Time

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and update LAUSD standards and guidelines, including educational specifications and space program templates.
  2. Support leadership in prioritizing capital projects using data analysis and preparing recommendations.
  3. Collaborate with instructional staff, school sites, and architects to define facility attributes supporting instructional programs.
  4. Create standards to ensure new and modernized facilities meet educational requirements.
  5. Coordinate with Furniture and Interiors Group for furniture and equipment solutions.
  6. Conduct post-occupancy assessments to inform improvements.
  7. Review and support project space programs aligned with educational specifications.
  8. Review design deliverables and provide feedback on space planning and adjacencies.
  9. Coordinate with CDE for project approval processes.
  10. Lead design activities for school upgrade and repair projects, interfacing with DSA.
  11. Manage and develop the district's design process, ensuring compliance with budget and legal standards.
  12. Establish and oversee architectural firm selection processes.
  13. Provide guidance and standards to architects and contractors.
  14. Document project steps to meet legal requirements.
  15. Review design changes for budget compliance.
  16. Recommends architectural firms from pre-qualified lists.
  17. Develop educational opportunities for staff and contractors.
  18. Coordinate with other district departments and units.
  19. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 15 years of full-time experience managing facilities design or capital projects, including design, contract administration, cost estimating, and scheduling.
  • At least 5 years of experience in designing, planning, and constructing K-12 educational facilities.
  • Bachelor's degree in architecture, urban planning, or related field; master's preferred.
  • California Architect or Professional Engineer license required.
  • Accredited Learning Environments Planner (ALEP) designation preferred.
