DLR Planning is seeking a Senior Design Manager to lead the design teams on education facilities projects, with emphasis on seismic retrofit and critical repair work in Los Angeles. You will coordinate architects, engineers, and district staff to ensure plans meet program, budget, environmental, and legal requirements while adhering to LAUSD standards.

This on-site, long-term role requires 14+ years of experience in facilities design or capital project coordination, with CA architecture

Qualifications

  • 14+ years of full-time professional experience in facilities design or planning and coordination of capital projects including design, contract administration, cost estimating, and scheduling
  • At least 4 years of this experience in the design, planning and construction of educational facilities or similar public agencies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise multiple education projects with emphasis on seismic, critical repair and retrofit work
  • Coordinate design processes with Architects, consultants, and District personnel to ensure compliance with program, budget, environmental, and legal requirements
  • Provide clear direction to Architects on goals, standards, schedule, and budget and manage the design review process
  • Ensure designs meet LAUSD standards and guidelines for new and modernized structures
  • Identify and select architectural firms based on qualifications and ability to meet performance standards
  • Monitor project planning and design status and report findings and recommendations

Job Title: Senior Design Manager - A/E Services - Education

Who We Are: DLR Planning is a Women and Minority-owned CM/PM firm working in both the public and private sectors. We specialize on mega projects such as large event venues, infrastructure and education. Established in 2015, we have a great company culture, strong project pipeline and high ceiling for personal growth.

Position Overview: We are currently looking for one dedicated individual to join our team in the role of Senior Design Manager. The Senior Design Manager position involves managing and supervising a team through the design process of multiple educational facilities projects with particular emphasis on seismic, critical repair and retrofit projects. Managed the Districts design process for A&E Services to ensure that plans are within functional program, budgetary, environmental, and legal requirements. Qualified candidates will possess a minimum of 14 years full-time paid professional experience managing the facilities design, or the planning and coordination of capital projects that include the overall design, contract administration, cost estimating, and scheduling activities (4 years of this experience must be with the design, planning and construction of educational facilities or similar public agencies).

Authorization to work lawfully in the US without sponsorship from DLR PLANNING, LLC is required.

This is an on-site, long-term job. You must be located in Southern California. NO relocation funds, and NO per diem.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manages multiple projects with particular emphasis on seismic, critical repair and retrofit

Projects

  • Manages and supervises a team of design professionals and other professionals through the design review process.
  • Manages, develops, and coordinates the districts design process for the A&E Services to ensure that plans are within functional program, budgetary, environmental, and legal requirements
  • Manages multiple projects, including engineering repair and critical repair, through interaction with Architects, consultants, and District personnel to ensure timely completion of these projects.
  • Oversees the building design process to ensure compliance with LAUSDs standards and guidelines for the district by working with design professionals and various District administrators to ensure that new and modernized structures meet both educational and building standards requirements.
  • Establishes and follows a process to identify and select the architectural firm best suited for each project based on the firm's qualifications and ability to meet performance standards
  • Provides Architects with clear and consistent direction with regard to goals and objectives, standards, site, schedule, and budget for each project
  • Establishes and follows an effective and efficient design review process to ensure that the design meets the overall goals and objectives for the project.
  • Provides maximum value for dollars budgeted, and are appropriate and enduring to meet the functional needs of the district, the local community, and the environment.
  • Reviews design changes submitted to ensure project remains within budget
  • Monitors project planning and design status to report findings, recommendations, and updates
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

Required Experience:

  • 14 years full time paid professional experience managing the facilities design, or the planning and coordination of capital projects that include the overall design, contract administration, cost estimating, and scheduling activities
  • 4 years of this experience must be with the design, planning and construction of educational facilities or similar public agencies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Required Education:

  • Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelors degree Architecture or Engineering

Preferred Education:

  • A masters degree in Architecture or Engineering

Preferred Licenses and Certificates:

  • A valid Certificate of Registration as an Architect by the California State Architectural Board or Professional Engineer by the State Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors
