Job summary

The Haskell Company is seeking a Senior Project Design Manager to lead design project management for large endeavors and medium projects with multiple disciplines. You will guide the design team from proposal through closeout, aligning with client goals and contractual requirements.

You will drive schedules, manage consultants, and ensure quality while building trust with clients and internal teams. This role requires 10+ years in design PM, and a strong engineering/architecture background.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or architecture preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience including lead designer and design project management experience.
  • Professional registration or eligible (preferred).
  • PMP certification desired but not required.
  • Knowledge of architectural/engineering systems and drawing production software.

Responsibilities

  • Guides career development, workload monitoring, and performance discussions for team members.
  • Ensures compliance with Prime Contract requirements.
  • Develops and updates project design schedule and informs team of changes.
  • Prequalifies design consultants.
  • Prepares Professional Service Agreements to minimize risk.
  • Evaluates changes affecting scope and schedule.
  • Prepares clear project communications, oral and written.
  • Builds relationships with clients and internal/external stakeholders.
  • Understands client business needs to seek future work.
  • Promotes safe work practices in design and field.
  • Facilitates design reviews to meet quality objectives.
  • Uses standard project management tools from proposal to close-out.
  • Forecasts and reports project financial performance.

Scope of Position

The Senior Project Design Manager executes design project management for large projects with limited disciplines or small/medium projects with several disciplines from proposal phase through project closeout. Leads and inspires the design team to collaborate to achieve all project goals.

Job Responsibilities
  • Guides career development, monitors workload and conducts regular performance management discussions for assigned team members.
  • Ensures the compliance with all Prime Contract requirements.
  • Develops, monitors, and updates an efficiently sequenced project design schedule and regularly advises the project team of changes.
  • Assures design consultants are prequalified.
  • Prepares Professional Service Agreements for design consultants that minimize risk to the Company.
  • Evaluates and distributes changes/add services effecting project scope and schedule.
  • Prepares clear and concise project communications, oral and written.
  • Builds positive working relationships with current clients, internal and external, establishing a relationship of trust.
  • Understands the client's business needs to seek future work.
  • Displays a commitment to safe work practices both during design document development and in the field.
  • Facilitates and monitors design reviews of documents to ensure project quality objectives are achieved.
  • Utilizes standard project management tools and techniques that comply with all company policies from proposal through close-out.
  • Forecasts and reports project financial performance and reviews with design business unit leaders and project leaders (for integrated projects).
  • Solicits input from practice areas for development of fee proposal or change order requests/add services.
  • Travel as required.
Education & Years of Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or architecture preferred
  • 10+ years of experience to include time as lead designer and prior design project management experience.
Qualifications
  • Professional registration or eligible (preferred).
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification desired but not required.
  • Knowledge of various relevant architectural and engineering systems (e.g., facilities, process and/or packaging systems as applicable).
  • Knowledge of drawing production software and integration requirements for complete project modeling.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Ability to adjust to changing timelines, meet deadlines and excellent time management skills.
Salary Range

The base salary range for this position is $150,000 - $185,000. The actual salary will be determined based on the candidate's knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

Environmental Factors and/or Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, this position is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, and arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application/form information. The associate frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
