Job summary

The Haskell Company is seeking a Project Design Manager to lead design projects from proposal through closeout with an emphasis on process engineering. You will guide the design team, coordinate with consultants, and ensure compliance with contract requirements in a collaborative, quality-driven environment.

Ideal candidates have 8+ years in design leadership, relevant engineering/architecture credentials, and strong scheduling, communication, and project-management skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or architecture preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience leading to independent lead designer.
  • Professional registration or eligible (preferred).
  • PMP certification desired but not required.
  • Knowledge of architectural and engineering systems (facilities, process and/or packaging).
  • Knowledge of drawing production software and integration requirements for complete project modeling.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Ability to adjust to changing timelines, meet deadlines and excellent time management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures compliance with all Prime Contract requirements.
  • Develops, monitors, and updates a design schedule and informs the project team of changes.
  • Prequalifies design consultants.
  • Prepares Professional Service Agreements for design consultants to minimize risk.
  • Evaluates and distributes changes affecting scope and schedule.
  • Prepares clear and concise project communications, oral and written.
  • Builds relationships with current clients, internal and external teams.
  • Displays commitment to safe work practices in design and field.
  • Facilitates and monitors design reviews to meet quality objectives.
  • Uses standard project management tools and techniques from proposal through close-out.
  • Forecasts and reports project financial performance and reviews with design leaders and project leaders.
  • Solicits input from practice areas for development of fee proposals or change orders.
  • Travel as required.

Scope of Position

The Project Design Manager executes design project management for small projects and/or those with limited disciplines from proposal phase through project closeout. Leads and inspires the design team to collaborate to achieve all project goals. This position will have an emphasis on Process engineering.

Job Responsibilities
  • Ensuresthe compliancewith all Prime Contract requirements.
  • Develops, monitors, and updates an efficiently sequenced project design schedule and regularly advises the project team of changes.
  • Assures design consultants are prequalified.
  • Prepares Professional Service Agreements for design consultants that minimize risk to the Company.
  • Evaluates and distributes changes/add services effecting project scope and schedule.
  • Prepares clear and concise project communications, oral and written.
  • Builds positive working relationships with current clients, internal and external, establishing a relationship of trust.
  • Displays a commitment to safe work practices both during design document development and in the field.
  • Facilitates and monitors design reviews of documents to ensure project quality objectives are achieved.
  • Utilizes standard project management tools and techniques that comply with all company policies from proposal through close-out.
  • Forecasts and reports project financial performance and reviews with design business unit leaders and project leaders (for integrated projects).
  • Solicits input from practice areas for development of fee proposal or change order requests/add services.
  • Travel as required.
Education & Years of Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or architecture preferred
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in a design discipline leading to being an independent lead designer.
Qualifications
  • Professional registration or eligible (preferred).
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification desired but not required.
  • Knowledge of various relevant architectural and engineering systems (e.g., facilities, process and/or packaging systems as applicable).
  • Knowledge of drawing production software and integration requirements for complete project modeling.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Ability to adjust to changing timelines, meet deadlines and excellent time management skills.
Environmental Factors and/or Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, this position is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, and arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application/form information. The associate frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
