Francison Consulting is seeking an experienced Senior Design Manager - A/E Services to support the Los Angeles Unified School District's Facilities Construction Program, Maintenance & Operations (M&O)/A&E Services. In this role, you will manage multiple projects with particular emphasis on seismic, critical repair, and retrofit projects, and manage and supervise a team of design professionals through the design review process.
This is an opportunity to lead the design direction for one of the nation's largest school districts, working closely with Architects, consultants, and District administrators from project planning through completion.
Position Summary
The Senior Design Manager - A/E Services will manage and coordinate LAUSD's design process for capital, repair, and retrofit projects, serving as the primary point of direction for Architects and design consultants, and supervising a team of design professionals. Core responsibilities include:
- Managing multiple projects with particular emphasis on seismic, critical repair, and retrofit projects
- Managing and supervising a team of design professionals and other professionals through the design review process
- Managing, developing, and coordinating the District's design process for A&E Services to ensure design plans are within functional program, budgetary, environmental, and legal requirements
- Managing multiple projects, including engineering repair and critical repair, through interaction with Architects, consultants, and District personnel to ensure timely completion
- Overseeing the building design process to ensure compliance with LAUSD's standards and guidelines by working with design professionals and District administrators
- Establishing and following a process to identify and select the architectural firm best suited for each project based on qualifications and ability to meet performance standards
- Providing Architects with clear and consistent direction regarding goals, objectives, standards, sites, schedules, and budgets for each project
- Establishing and following an effective and efficient design review process to ensure designs meet overall project goals and objectives
- Providing maximum value for dollars budgeted, appropriate and enduring to meet the functional needs of the District, the local community, and the environment
- Reviewing design changes submitted to ensure projects remain within budget
- Monitoring project planning and design status to report findings, recommendations, and updates
- Performing other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- 14 years full time paid professional experience managing facilities design, or the planning and coordination of capital projects that included overall design, contract administration, cost estimating, and scheduling activities
- 4 years of this experience must be with the design, planning, and construction of educational facilities or similar public agencies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor's degree in architecture or engineering
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in architecture or engineering
- Valid Certificate of Registration as an Architect by the California State Architectural Board, or Professional Engineer by the State Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors
