North American Renewables, Inc., is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to join our growing EPC team!

Location: Hybrid / Canton, MA

Department: Engineering

Reports To: Design Engineering Manager

Job Type: Full-time

Summary:

North American Renewables, Inc. (NAR) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Design Engineer to lead the design and development of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in system design, electrical engineering, and project execution for commercial & industrial solar installations. This role involves taking ownership of engineering activities from initial concept through construction, ensuring compliance with all relevant codes, standards, and performance requirements.


Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and engineering of solar PV ground mount systems and battery storage.
  • Develop detailed electrical and structural design drawings, single-line diagrams (SLDs), and layout plans using AutoCAD, PVCase, PVsyst, and similar tools.
  • Perform energy production analysis and system sizing using PVsyst to meet client and project requirements.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes and standards (e.g., NEC, UL, IEC, IEEE, and local regulations).
  • Prepare technical documentation for bids, utility approvals, client/AHJ review and construction.
  • Review and approve electrical schematics, specifications, and bills of materials.
  • Collaborate with the engineering project manager, P.E.'s, & Construction Design Integration teams and to support system design through client/AHJ review, construction and project closeout.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers and drafters in best practices and technical development.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends to improve design efficiency and system performance.
  • Participate in site assessments, feasibility studies, and cost analysis.

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in solar design software such as AutoCAD, PVsyst, & PVCase.
  • Strong understanding of electrical codes (NEC, IEEE), utility interconnection requirements, solar design principles and construction best practices.
  • Understanding of basic electrical, structural, and civil engineering concepts.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.

Preferred:

  • Revit and Civil 3D proficiency is a plus
  • NABCEP certification (PV Installation Professional or PV Technical Sales).
  • Experience with battery energy storage systems (BESS) and hybrid systems.
  • Familiarity with SCADA and grid integration technologies

Education:

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field.


Experience:

Minimum 3-6 years of experience in solar PV system design related work for projects 1 MW or greater.
