Job summary

Pride Mobility Products®/Quantum Rehab® seeks a seasoned Mechanical Engineer to design, prototype, test, and improve mobility devices. You will lead complex mechanical systems, create and update 3D models and 2D drawings, and ensure designs are safe, manufacturable, and cost-effective.

The role requires extensive experience with SolidWorks or Creo, PLM/PDM usage, and GD&T proficiency. You will collaborate across departments, mentor teammates, and travel for product launches to contract

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with extensive design experience.
  • 7+ years designing mechanical systems; 5+ years 3D modeling and 5 years 2D drawings.
  • GD&T knowledge or certificate required; familiar with manufacturing methods.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Design and analyze complex mechanical systems (structural, suspension, chassis, linkages).
  • Develop, release, and revise 3D models and drawings.
  • Ensure safety, manufacturability, reliability; meet SPARC initiatives.
  • Lead technical projects with external partners and suppliers.
  • Coach team members and drive design procedure improvements.
  • Travel to domestic and international contract manufacturers as needed.

Job description

Collaborating as part of a team responsible for designing, prototyping, testing, and assembling new mobility devices and improving existing products in accordance with the company’s procedures and protocols

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
  • Design and analyze complex mechanical systems including but not limited to high load structural systems, suspension systems, vehicle chassis, actuator driven linkages, and linear motion systems
  • Develop, release and revise mechanical drawings and 3D models
  • Ensure designs are safe, effective, manufacturable, reliable and Superior Product at Reduced Cost (SPARC) initiatives are met
  • Perform component inspections as well as system verification and validation testing
  • Meet and fulfill project timelines and budgets
  • Serve as technical project lead with external design partners and suppliers
  • Coach and teach advanced skills and techniques to less experienced team members within the department
  • Assist in continuous improvement of design procedure and protocol to help drive design efficiency
  • Assist management in championing change within Pride
  • Travel to domestic and international contract manufacturers as needed for product launches
  • Ensure all safety and security rules are strictly observed and any accidents, incidents or injuries are promptly reported to management
  • Complete the Annual CTPAT Security Training
  • Focus on continuous improvement, and consistently demonstrate good business judgment
  • Work effectively with all Pride departments to exceed internal and external expectations
  • Pride retains the discretion to modify duties and/or assign other duties as necessary
REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Must be a self-starter, creative team player, friendly, professional, detail-oriented and honest

Must have:

  • Advanced working knowledge of 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks or Creo
  • Advanced familiarity with ASTM, ASME, and ISO standards relating to materials, testing, and finishing
  • Advanced working knowledge of various manufacturing methods and their respective effects on component design
  • Advanced working knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) or Product Data Management (PDM) systems
  • Intermediate understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T); OR certificate of completion in GD&T Training Course
  • Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Basic working knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and simulation
  • Strong research capabilities
  • Strong mechanical inclination
PREFERRED SKILLS
  • Intermediate working knowledge of FEA and simulation preferred
  • Basic understanding of Lean Principles preferred
  • Lift/Push/Pull 40 lbs. preferred
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
  • At least 7 years of experience in designing mechanical systems and assemblies
  • At least 5 years of experience in 3D solid modeling of mechanical components and assemblies
  • At least 5 years of experience in creating, reading, and comprehending 2D detail drawings
  • At least 3 years of experience in the application of GD&T
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience with machining, welding and fabrication of mechanical assemblies preferred
  • At least 7 years of hands-on experience in the assembly of fabricated mechanical components and systems preferred
  • At least 7 years of hands-on experience in an environment supporting design, manufacturing, technical service, and technical processes preferred
  • At least 7 years of equivalent experience in 3D solid modeling of mechanical components and assemblies along with 2D detail drawings preferred
  • At least 1 year of experience with the specific products preferred
REQUIRED EDUCATION
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, OR Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering with at least 12 years of the required experience
PREFERRED EDUCATION
  • Master’s Degree in a related Engineering field preferred
