Job summary

Senior Metal Bellows is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to join the New Product Development team in Massachusetts. You will lead design from concept through production, collaborating with customers and internal teams to deliver custom metal bellows and tooling.

Responsibilities include creating detailed drawings, performing analyses, and guiding engineering decisions with GD&T and DFMA best practices. You will mentor junior engineers while advancing complex, precision manufacturing projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years in mechanical product design within manufacturing.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks and PDM/PLM systems.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T, ASME Y14.5.
  • Experience from concept through production including prototyping and manufacturing support.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop custom metal bellows, assemblies, tooling, and fixtures using SolidWorks per ASME Y14.5.
  • Create detailed drawings, 3D models, BOMs, and technical docs for manufacturing and customers.
  • Translate customer specs into robust designs.
  • Apply GD&T, DFMA, and best practices across product development.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and production to optimize designs for cost and manufacturability.
  • Support prototype fabrication, testing, design verification, and qualification activities.
  • Perform stress, pressure, strength, fatigue, and performance calculations.
  • Conduct/assist FEA and other analyses to validate designs.
  • Participate in customer meetings and technical reviews to support business development.
  • Identify opportunities for process and tool improvements.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and innovative Senior Design Engineer for our New Product Development Team to work closely with customers in the world's most demanding industries.

What You'll Do
  • Design and develop custom metal bellows, assemblies, tooling, and fixtures utilizing SolidWorks and ASME Y14.5 standards.
  • Create detailed engineering drawings, 3D models, bills of materials, and technical documentation to support manufacturing and customer requirements.
  • Translate customer specifications, technical requirements, and engineering proposals into robust product designs.
  • Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA), and engineering best practices throughout the product development process.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and production teams to optimize designs for performance, quality, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Support prototype fabrication, testing, design verification, validation, and product qualification activities.
  • Perform engineering calculations related to stress, pressure, strength, effective area, fatigue, and performance requirements.
  • Conduct or support Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and other engineering analyses to validate designs and improve performance.
  • Participate in customer meetings, technical reviews, and engineering discussions to support business development and project execution.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and contribute to enhancements in engineering processes, tools, and standards.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineering staff as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of mechanical product design experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks and Product Data Management (PDM) and/or Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, engineering drawings, and ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) standards.
  • Experience developing products from concept through production, including design, prototyping, testing, and manufacturing support.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Bonus For
  • Experience performing engineering calculations related to mechanical systems, pressure-containing components, or structural analysis.
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and engineering simulation tools.
  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA) principles.
  • Experience working with custom-engineered products, tooling, fixtures, or precision manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with quality systems, continuous improvement methodologies, and engineering change management processes.

Salary Range: $100k-130k annually

Final rate will be determined by relevant experience, skills, and qualifications
