Belden Inc. is seeking a Senior Design Engineer in East Syracuse, NY to design new products and drive cost reductions in existing lines.

The role reports to the Director of Fiber Cable & Connectivity Development and is on-site in Syracuse. You will collaborate across Sales, Product Management, and Global Manufacturing to optimize designs, lead cost-optimization efforts, and ensure high-performance, compliant fiber optic solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with five years of design experience.
• Experience with fiber optic cable, connectors, and interconnect products.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks or other 3D CAD platforms.

Responsibilities

• Develop next-generation optical connectivity solutions for broadband networks meeting market and margin goals.
• Lead design, value engineering, and cost-optimization of fiber optic cables, connectors, and PON components.
• Advance connector technology from concept to commercialization with project execution.
• Define environmental and mechanical qualification testing to ensure compliance with standards.
• Stay current with market trends and product applications; grow technical knowledge.
• Provide mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers and coordinate with Product Management, Quality Assurance, and Tier-1 providers.

Job Summary:

PPC a Belden Brand is currently seeking a Senior Design Engineer. This will be responsible for the design of new products and implementing cost reductions to existing products. This position reports to the Director of Fiber Cable & Connectivity Development and on-site in Syracuse.

You will make a difference in the following ways:

• Develop next-generation optical connectivity solutions for broadband networks that meet market and company margin goals.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration:Serve as the technical expert cooperating with Sales, Product Management, and Global Manufacturing teams to evaluate design trade-offs, troubleshoot production failures, and resolve complex customer requirements
• Drive market competitiveness by leading the design, value engineering, and cost-optimization of next-generation fiber optic cables, connectors, and passive optical network (PON) components, significantly reducing costs while maintaining strict optical performance and compliance standards
• Interconnect Development: Advance connector tech by executing projects from initial concept through design validation, qualification, and commercialization.
• Define environmental and mechanical qualification testing to ensure compliance with customer and industry standards
• Develop market knowledge and skill set to stay current with market trends, product application and competitive products.
• Mentorship & Collaboration: Provide technical mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers. Act as the primary engineering point of contact for Product Management, Quality Assurance, and Tier-1 broadband service providers

What you will bring:

• Education & Experience: Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering with five (5) years of design experience in a Mechanical or Electromechanical field
• Experience with fiber optic cable, connectors, cable assemblies, enclosures and interconnect products
• Knowledge of high speed manufacturing equipment and capability such as automated assembly machines, screw machine and CNC
• Proficiency in SolidWorks or other 3D CAD Platforms
• Well-developed organization skills, including the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment while upholding quality standards
