Job summary

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, licensure preferred, and at least four years of progressive architectural design and higher education project coordination experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in Architecture, Building Construction, Engineering, or related field; professional licensure preferred; minimum 4 years experience in architectural design, construction planning, and higher education project coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Provides architectural and construction planning expertise for new construction, renovations, and capital improvement projects.
  • Assists in advertising for and selecting designers, suppliers, and construction consultants; coordinates with third‑party consultants through pre-design to construction documentation.
  • Reviews design documents for compliance with NC Building Codes, ADA, life safety, and local/state ordinances.
  • Ensures design solutions align with master planning, sustainability, durability, and long‑term facility functionality.
  • Assists in refining project scopes for clarity and alignment with priorities.
  • Collaborates with project managers responsible for schedule, budget, and consultant coordination.
  • Provides technical consultation during planning, bidding, and construction to resolve changes and budget challenges.
  • Participates in coordination meetings to ensure feasibility of design intent and code compliance.
  • Reviews cost estimates, value engineering proposals, and change orders for technical soundness.
  • Supports construction accounting and budget transparency through technical validation.
  • Facilitates cross‑divisional design coordination to align projects with academic programming and operational needs.
  • Incorporates facilities data and enterprise analytics into design recommendations.
  • Maintains high architectural standards in materials, space functionality, longevity, and campus coherence.
  • Supports executive leadership with project‑level analysis for capital planning discussions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
