Job summary

WEX in Maine seeks a Senior Database Architect to modernize legacy SQL Server systems while architecting AI-native data infrastructure, including vector databases and embedding pipelines. You will decompose stored procedures, move logic to services, and define patterns for CQRS, CDC, and event sourcing.

You'll design semantic models and knowledge graphs to power AI agents, build scalable data platforms across SQL and NoSQL stores, and coach teams on data architecture for AI-enabled workflows.

Qualifications

• Proven experience with large-scale SQL Server environments and stored procedures.
• Strong data modeling and semantic modeling skills for AI-enabled retrieval.
• Hands-on with event-driven patterns, CDC, and CQRS in production.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and decompose large SQL Server stored procedures with embedded logic and create migration strategies.
• Lead refactoring to align database structures with domain-driven design and event-driven patterns.
• Design vector databases, embedding pipelines, and semantic models for AI retrieval.
• Architect data platforms across SQL/NoSQL and analytical stores, with scalable data flows.
• Develop AI-ready artifacts and tooling to accelerate modernization efforts.
• Collaborate with AI/ML teams to support agent requirements and domain-driven design.
