Prompt Health is seeking a senior Database Reliability Engineer to own the reliability, performance, and availability of production databases (Aurora MySQL on AWS). You will drive alerting, observability, and cost efficiency while educating engineering teams on best practices for database hygiene and query performance.

The role requires deep MySQL expertise, hands-on experience with large multi-reader Aurora/RDS clusters, and strong scripting plus IaC skills.

• 6+ years in database reliability engineering or administration.
• Deep MySQL expertise including query optimization and execution-plan analysis.
• Hands-on experience with large, multi-reader Aurora or RDS clusters at terabyte scale.
• Strong command of database observability tooling (Datadog, PMM, Prometheus/Grafana).
• Proficiency in scripting (Python, Bash) and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform).
• Solid AWS operational depth around RDS/Aurora.
• Experience with on-call and incident response.

Responsibilities

• Own the reliability, performance, and availability of all production databases (Aurora MySQL on AWS)
• Manage database alerting and observability via Datadog
• Educate engineering teams on database hygiene and query performance
• Implement automated safeguards and query termination
• Author and maintain database runbooks
• Optimize queries, indexing, and latency
• Architect Aurora reader topology and read-routing strategies
• Manage database cost efficiency and right-sizing
• Manage replication, backups, and disaster recovery
• Handle PHI within a HIPAA-compliant environment

Requirements

• 6+ years in database reliability engineering or administration
• Deep MySQL expertise including query optimization and execution-plan analysis
• Hands-on experience with large, multi-reader Aurora or RDS clusters at terabyte scale
• Strong command of database observability tooling (Datadog, PMM, Prometheus/Grafana)
• Proficiency in scripting (Python, Bash) and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform)
• Solid AWS operational depth around RDS/Aurora
• Experience with on-call and incident response

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience operating cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift)
• Experience in HIPAA-regulated or compliance-heavy environments
• Familiarity with query auto-remediation tooling
• Application-side familiarity with PHP
• Knowledge of security best practices for database and cloud environments
