About The Job

We are seeking an experienced Senior Database Engineer to join our team with expertise in database management and configuration in Brightly’s public cloud-based infrastructure. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining cloud-based database systems. This role involves ensuring the availability, performance, and security of databases hosted on cloud platforms. The engineer collaborates with development and operations teams to integrate databases with applications and optimize cloud resources. What You’ll Be Doing (responsibilities)

  • Oversee the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of cloud-based databases.
  • Support mission-critical SQL databases with advanced troubleshooting skills for performance and tuning.
  • Optimize database systems to ensure they are robust and efficient.
  • Analyze solutions and implement best practices for database management.
  • Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes, for efficiency and cost optimization.
  • Create, maintain, and document processes for managing production database systems.
  • Create tools and automation to simplify database operations and improve efficiency.
  • Keep up to date with the latest technology trends.
  • Work closely with the DevOps teams on production changes, incident mitigation, support application integration and deployment.
  • Provide database expertise to engineering teams.
  • Perform capacity planning including future storage requirements.
  • Lead database-related projects, ensuring timely delivery and implementation of new features.

What you need (requirements)

  • Bachelor’s in computer science or related discipline; or equivalent work experience.
  • 7-10 years or more of experience supporting SQL Server in an enterprise environment.

Experience with (but not necessarily all):

  • AWS (Azure a plus)
  • SQL, T-SQL, PL/SQL
  • SQL Server, Snowflake, PostgreSQL, Oracle, Redis, DynamoDB, Couchbase, RedShift
  • SentryOne, Datadog, CloudWatch
  • Jenkins, DACPACs, Redgate tools
  • Bitbucket, GitHub, SVN
  • PowerShell, Bash, Python (C# or GO a plus)
  • Ansible, Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK, SAM

Multi-Cloud experience will be preferred.

  • Experience with SQL Clustering and Availability Groups and database replication.
  • Experience with monitoring and provisioning SQL Server in AWS/Azure.
  • Willing to be on 24X7 on-call rotation and respond to production outages.
  • Ability to automate redundant tasks using scripts, jobs, and other technologies.
  • Strong communication, partnership, teamwork and influencing skills required.
  • Experience with source control, with a database engineering background.
  • A strong interest in cloud technologies and automation and a DevOps mindset.

Siemens offers a variety of health and wellness benefits to employees. The pay range for this position is <$110,000 – $165,000>. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications and premium geographic location.
