eBay is seeking a Senior Member of Technical Staff (Database Engineering) for their Data Infrastructure organization, which builds and runs a petabyte-scale core data platform that powers large-scale database, storage, caching, and media infrastructure. This position offers the opportunity to architect, build, and operate the next-generation distributed database and storage platform supporting critical systems in eBay’s global ecommerce business. Responsibilities include scaling eBay’s core data infrastructure by collaborating with engineers, customers, business partners, and product managers.

We are looking for a highly skilled and results-driven Senior PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA) and Developer with extensive experience in managing, optimizing, and developing database systems using PostgreSQL. The candidate should have expertise in database architecture, performance tuning, high availability setups, complex query optimization, and full-stack database development. A proven track record of implementing innovative solutions, improving system performance, and ensuring the security and availability of mission-critical applications is essential.

Core Competencies:

1. PostgreSQL Administration: Expert in installing, configuring, and maintaining PostgreSQL instances in various environments.
2. Database Performance Optimization: Skilled in query optimization, indexing, partitioning, and caching strategies.
3. High Availability & Disaster Recovery: Experience with replication, failover mechanisms, and backup strategies.
4. Scalability & Load Balancing: Capable of implementing scaling techniques and managing large datasets.
5. Database Security: Knowledge of access control, encryption, and security audits.
6. SQL & PL/pgSQL Development: Proficient in writing complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and triggers.
7. Data Migration & ETL: Experienced in data migration and ETL operations.
8. Cloud Infrastructure: Familiar with deploying PostgreSQL on AWS, Azure, and GCP.
9. DevOps & Automation: Knowledge of IaC, CI/CD pipelines, and automation tools like Ansible, Docker, and Kubernetes.

What you will do:

1. Design, develop, and deploy software applications and tools for the Database Engineering Team.
2. Build and improve products and develop new tools supporting large-scale ecommerce infrastructure.
3. Collaborate with the team to understand requirements, formulate use cases, and deliver solutions.
4. Estimate efforts, prioritize projects, plan implementations, and address production issues.
5. Translate abstract concepts into products using Java/Python/Go/Perl, participate in brainstorming, and contribute ideas.
6. Proactively communicate and seek opportunities for process improvement and innovation.

What you will bring:

1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science plus 10+ years of experience or MS with hands-on programming experience.
2. Strong foundation in computer science with skills in coding and adapting to new technologies.
3. 8-10 years of relevant experience.
4. Experience troubleshooting and testing in both new and legacy systems.
5. Proficiency in programming, problem diagnosis, and resolution.
