Leonard Workforce Solutions is seeking an Advanced Database Engineer for a defense/ intelligence R&D client. You will design database architectures, implement and optimize PostgreSQL deployments, and work with mission data in Linux environments.

Senior IC with TS/SCI clearance, strong SQL/Python skills, and experience with data pipelines and ETL will thrive on this autonomous, high-impact role supporting front-line facilities and cutting-edge DSP, GIS, and geolocation technologies.

Qualifications

• Experience deploying and scaling PostgreSQL in Linux environments.
• Proficient in SQL, Python, and shell scripting in Linux.
• Experience with PostgreSQL tuning, backup, recovery, and failover.
• Experience with large data management, data pipelines, and ETL concepts.
• Hands-on enterprise experience with Oracle, MS SQL Server, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, or Redis.

Leonard Workforce Solutions is running a confidential search for an Advanced Database Engineer supporting a defense and intelligence R&D client focused on digital signal processing (DSP), geolocation, and communications systems for the United States Defense and Intelligence Communities. This is a senior individual contributor seat on a multidisciplinary team, with real autonomy, real ownership, and the expectation that you propose and drive improvements to the applications and frameworks you work in.

Core responsibilities include designing database architecture solutions, developing and implementing databases, analyzing and maintaining operational databases, and adding new features to operational systems. You will test with real mission data, provide support to front-line customer facilities, and stay ahead on the latest technologies, tools, and methodologies. Self-starters who can operate unsupervised with minimal direction will thrive.

Qualifications

• Active TS/SCI (Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information) clearance
• Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field
• Minimum 10 years of experience in database engineering, database administration, data management, or software development supporting an engineering-related domain
• Demonstrated experience deploying, administering, managing, and scaling enterprise-level PostgreSQL database systems in Linux environments
• Proficient in SQL, Python, and shell scripting in Linux
• Experience with PostgreSQL database tuning, backup, recovery, and fail-over concepts at enterprise scale
• Demonstrated experience with large data management, data pipelines, and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) concepts
• Hands-on enterprise experience with one or more additional RDBMS (Relational Database Management System) or NoSQL platforms such as Oracle, MS SQL Server, Citus Data, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, Couchbase, Cassandra, or Redis
• Demonstrated ability to design software systems that meet functionality, performance, scalability, and maintainability requirements

Required Skills

• Security+ certification
• DevOps and Cloud computing experience (GitLab, CI/CD, CVE mitigations, Docker, Kubernetes, PIP)
• Spatial database solutions supporting GIS (Geographic Information Systems) software such as QGIS, PostGIS, GeoServer, and ArcGIS
• Experience with Python, C++, Golang, Rust, or Java
• Dashboard development with Grafana and/or Kibana
• Implementing and managing RDBMS databases using SAN (Storage Area Network) solutions such as Pure Storage, NetApp, or EMC
• Familiarity with frontend web development using Vue, React, and/or Angular
• Modern software engineering practices for testability and readability
• Ability to mentor other engineers and provide technical advice to project leaders

Pay range and compensation package

$167,000 to $205,000 base salary (final offer set based on experience, location, and contractual requirements). The client is employee owned. Benefits include 100% employer paid premiums for family medical and dental, employee life, short-term disability, and long-term disability. Immediate participation and vesting in the ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) and 401(k). Employer ESOP contributions, 401(k) match, and discretionary employer contributions. 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off.
