Job summary

Stevens Capital Management LP is seeking a highly motivated Database Administrator to join a research and trading development team. You will manage proprietary and Sybase database systems, from high-velocity OLTP to data warehousing on 250G+ servers, supporting a mix of technical and non-technical users.

The role emphasizes performance, security, and reliability, with collaboration across development and infrastructure teams in a fast-paced financial environment.

Qualifications

• Solid understanding of SQL and relational database fundamentals.
• Experience administering SAP ASE (Sybase/SAP) or other enterprise database systems.
• Experience with Microsoft SQL Server and/or SAP ASE.
• Knowledge of backup/restores, capacity planning, server performance tuning.
• Proficiency in programming in lower-level languages and scripting for automation.
• Ability to administer and support alternative data storage technologies including Kafka and MySQL.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Administer, maintain, monitor, and optimize database systems for performance, availability, and reliability.
• Design and support relational database structures using sound principles.
• Perform backup, restore, and disaster recovery planning and operations.
• Conduct capacity planning and manage storage growth and infrastructure needs.
• Monitor and tune database and server performance to maximize efficiency.
• Manage database security, including user administration and access controls.
• Troubleshoot database issues and perform root-cause analysis.
• Develop and maintain scripts/automation tools for administration and monitoring.
• Support and administer alternative data storage technologies and platforms.
• Collaborate with development and infrastructure teams to align solutions with business needs.
