Job summary

Placements24 seeks an experienced Senior Database Administrator for a hybrid role in Upington. You will oversee installation, configuration, patching, upgrading, monitoring, and tuning across SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL and PostgreSQL to ensure high availability and data integrity.

You will implement robust security, perform health checks, and optimize queries while collaborating with development teams. A strong scripting background and cloud DB familiarity are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional experience as a Database Administrator.
• Proven experience with major RDBMS such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.
• Strong knowledge of database performance tuning, backup, and recovery techniques.
• Experience with database security implementation and management.
• Proficiency in writing SQL queries and stored procedures.
• Familiarity with cloud database services (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database) is a plus.
• Experience with scripting languages (PowerShell, Bash) for automation.
• Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
