Job summary

First Tech Federal Credit Union is seeking a Senior Database Administrator in Hillsboro, OR. The role focuses on SQL Server implementation, tuning, high availability, security, backups, logging, reporting, and recovery procedures in a hybrid work environment.

You will partner with business units to maintain critical SQL Server systems, define performance metrics, and lead remediation efforts across multiple environments, while providing expert mentorship and after-hours support as required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of database administration experience including security, design, data modeling, capacity planning, high availability and DR; financial services exp. preferred.
• Experience implementing recovery procedures and DR for MS SQL databases.
• Expert knowledge of Windows OS and MS SQL Server (current versions) including troubleshooting tools.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently or in a team; strong time management.

Responsibilities

• Partner with business units to develop application implementation strategy and configure, maintain critical SQL Server RDBMS systems for availability and performance.
• Define and implement key database performance metrics and remediation plans.
• Manage SQL Server databases across development to production environments.
• Manage high availability clusters and availability groups for business needs.
• Provide 24/7 support with on-call duties as needed.
• Act as SME and mentor peers; document changes and automate processes.

Job description

The Senior Database Administrator is responsible for all functions associated with the implementation and maintenance of SQL Server databases including tuning, high availability, virtualization, security, backup logging, reporting and recovery procedures.

The Senior Database Administrator is responsible for all functions associated with the implementation and maintenance of SQL Server databases including tuning, high availability, virtualization, security, backup logging, reporting and recovery procedures.

Job Duties

• Partner with business units to develop application implementation strategy, and configure, maintain critical SQL Server RDBMS systems, to ensure the availability and consistent performance of our corporate applications
• Define and implement key database performance metrics and develop remediation plans and lead implementation as appropriate
• Manage SQL Server databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems
• Manage high availability clusters and availability groups to support business requirements
• Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end
• Design and implement automation processes, track issues, and document changes
• Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours
• Act as a subject matter expert to share domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross-training to other peers and team members
• Provide 24/7 support with rotating on-call duties after hours within predetermined and agreed upon service expectations

Essential Skills

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in database administration including database security, design, data modeling, capacity planning, high availability solutions and disaster recovery; experience in the financial services industry is preferred
• Experience in implementing recovery procedures and disaster recovery function to protect the MS SQL database
• Expert knowledge of Windows Operating Systems and MS SQL Server (current versions), including the use of all SQL troubleshooting tools
• Demonstrated effective time management skills and the ability to work independently or in a collaborative team environment
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills; ability to resolve complex issues with minimal direction
• Ability to foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to express ideas concisely and logically
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
• Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems is preferred
• Certification/License: MS SQL is preferred

Location:

Target Compensation:

$124,500 - $147,500 annually + annual bonus
