Job summary

Oklahoma-State-University-Alumni-Association seeks a Senior Database Administrator to design, implement, and maintain databases in alignment with organizational needs. The role develops data systems for daily business and ensures data integrity across systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in MIS or CS with database emphasis.
  • SQL database experience and object-oriented programming experience required.
  • Five or more years of experience in information technology, database management, or data analytics.
  • Experience automating data flows between diverse data systems.
  • Familiarity with AI tools, specifically Microsoft Copilot.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to prioritize workload without close supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Program management: develop and maintain automated business processes.
  • Review, analyze, evaluate database systems, and provide recommendations aligned with business strategy.
  • Develop programs to synchronize data between the Alumni Association website and other data systems.
  • Create, maintain, and execute data warehouse queries and deliver custom reports from multiple sources.
  • Provide in-house technical support for database, software, and desktop issues; document and track problems.
  • Procure and manage staff hardware; provide guidance to OSUAA Information Services team.
  • Collaborate with OSU Foundation and OSU IT on software projects including AI tools; support alumni programs with analytics.

Job Title: Senior Database AdministratorReports To: Vice President of Finance and OperationsFLSA Classification: ExemptNature of Work:The Senior Database Administrator designs, implements, and maintains databases in accordance with organizational needs. This position develops and/or maintains various data systems for daily business.Responsibilities:Program ManagementDevelop and maintain automated business process programsReview, analyze, and evaluate database systems and user needs to provide recommendations and solutions parallel to overall business strategiesDevelop programs and systems to synchronize data between the Alumni Association website and other data systemsCreate, maintain, and execute data warehouse queriesProcess data requests and develop custom reports utilizing data from multiple sources, including the Alumni Association constituent databaseProvide in-house expertise and technical support to end users on database, software, and desktop-related issues:Identify, research, and resolve technical problems, working with outside vendors/technical support as needed, and documenting, tracking, and monitoring problems to ensure a timely resolutionProcure, provision, and manage staff hardware, including laptops, monitors, and peripheralsProvide technical guidance to OSUAA Information Services teamPerform other duties as assignedOrganizational StrategyTrain staff in the use of the Alumni Association's standard software applications/databases, as neededCollaborate with the OSU Foundation and OSU Information Technology to remain informed on software projects, updates, upgrades, and additional services, including the use of AI technologyMaintain goals and objectives by providing data and analytics for information services supporting alumni association programsProvide excellent customer service to all constituents requesting queries and IT supportFacilitate the effectiveness of the Information Services teamJob Competencies and Experience:EducationA bachelor's degree is required, preferably in Management Information Systems or computer science with an emphasis in database management.SQL database experience and object-oriented programming experience are required.ExperienceFive or more years of experience in information technology, database management, or data analytics.Skills:Experience using a production environment and automating data flows between diverse data systemsExperience writing SQL queries and delivering data to stakeholdersAnalytical skills to evaluate current systemsFamiliarity with AI tools, specifically Microsoft CopilotStrong communication skillsAbility to prioritize workload and complete activities without close supervisionCore Competencies:Effective Communication: Promotes the timely, seamless flow of high-quality information throughout and beyond the organization while encouraging the open exchange of ideas and opinions.Execution & Initiative: Makes decisions authoritatively and wisely, after adequately contemplating various available courses of actionTeamwork & Interpersonal Skills: Fosters development of a common vision; coaches, motivates, encourages and gains support to accomplish specific goalsProblem Solving & Judgement: Makes decisions on sound reasoning, evaluation of facts and consideration of alternatives; negotiates between disagreeing viewpoints with tact and diplomacyAdaptability: Changes behavioral style or method of approach when necessary to achieve a goal; adjusts style as appropriate to the needs of the situationEquipment Used:SnowflakeWorkatoAscend/Salesforce databaseTableauMicrosoft Visual Studio CodeMicrosoft Office SuiteMicrosoft CopilotEncompass web platformWork Environment:The position is in an office setting within the OSU Alumni Center.
