Job summary

Karsun Solutions, LLC is seeking a Senior Database Administrator to support databases that back the customer's production apps, software development, and maintenance projects.

You will manage RDS MySQL and PostgreSQL in AWS, optimize performance, ensure backups, security, and lifecycle management, and collaborate with development teams and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related IT field; engineering/math/science substitutions allowed.
• Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in database administration.
• Expertise in MySQL (v5.7, 8.0) and PostgreSQL (v12-16) in enterprise environments.
• Significant experience with Amazon RDS or Aurora managed services.
• Deep understanding of Linux-based databases and open-source internals.
• Experience in Database Lifecycle Management (DLM).
• Experience in data scrubbing, masking, and data comparison/review.
• Experience in strengthening authentication robustness for databases.
• AWS and/or Azure cloud experience.
• Relevant certifications.
• Ability to obtain/maintain U.S. Suitability/Public Trust clearance.

Responsibilities

• Provide database administration to RDS MySQL and PostgreSQL engines within AWS cloud.
• Install, configure, maintain DB instances and manage Parameter/Option Groups and upgrades/patches.
• Manage DB security and user permissions including IAM authentication and VPC security groups.
• Develop/maintain DB objects and optimize vacuum or buffer pool settings.
• Monitor and optimize database performance and tuning.
• Manage and ensure compliance with backup strategies.
• Provide customer support to DB and related development teams and stakeholders.
• Maintain Database Lifecycle Management processes per customer specs.
• Provide impact assessments on changes to apps and DB structures.
• Provide schedules and resource estimates for proposed changes to apps/DBs.
• Provide sizing recommendations for new databases; project growth Impact on memory/performance.
• Participate in meetings with Solution Delivery Service and stakeholders.
• Collaborate with other DBAs to optimize databases, clusters, replication, backups and services.

Summary

As a Senior Database Administrator, you will provide services for databases that support the customer's production applications, software development, and application maintenance projects.

What You'll Be Doing:

• Provide database administration to RDS MySQL and PostgreSQL databases engines within the AWS Cloud environment.
• Install, configure, and maintain database instances, including managing RDS Parameter Groups, Option Groups and coordinating engine version upgrades/patches.
• Manage database security and user permissions and privileges in accordance with application/database requirements including IAM Database authentication, VPC security groups and user permissions/privileges.
• Develop and/or maintain database objects (tables, views, indexes) and optimize Vacuum (Postgres) or Buffer Pool (MySQL) settings.
• Monitor and optimize database performance and tuning
• Manage and ensure compliance with database backup strategies
• Customer support to database and associated application development team, owners, and user stakeholders
• Maintain Database Lifecycle Management processes detailed by customer specifications
• Provide impact information on proposed changes to application and it's database structure
• Provide schedule and resource requirements to stakeholders concerning proposed changes to the application and associated database
• Provide sizing recommendations for any new databases or changes to existing databases, including user/data growth projection and the impact on the server memory and performance characteristics
• Participate in meetings with Solution Delivery Service staff and stakeholders
• Work with other database administrators to ensure optimal efficiency and optimization of databases, server clusters, replications, back-up strategies, and database services to customer and its customers.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or other IT degree; Engineering, math, and/or science degrees are acceptable substitute degrees
• Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience
• Expertise in MySQL (v5.7, 8.0) and/or PostgreSQL (v12-16) administration in an enterprise environment
• Significant experience with Amazon RDS or Aurora managed services.
• Deep understanding of Linux-based database environments and open-source database internals.
• Experience in Database Lifecycle Management (DLM)
• Experience in Data Scrubbing, Data Masking, Data Compare and Review.
• Experience in improving Database user / systems authentication robustness.
• AWS and/or Azure experience
• Relevant certification
• The ability to successfully obtain and maintain a U.S. Suitability/Public Trust Background Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience:
• Operating in traditional and agile project models
• Experience with PostgreSQL extensions (e.g., PostGIS, pg_stat_statements) or MySQL storage engines.
• Knowledge of High Availability architectures (RDS Multi-AZ) and Global Databases.
• Setup and maintenance of AWS KMS encryption at rest and SSL/TLS in transit.
• Proficiency with AWS DMS (Database Migration Service) and Schema Conversion Tool (SCT).
• DevOps toolchain services (GIT, Ansible Tower, Artifactory, Jenkins)
• Amazon Web Services familiarity (EC2, RDS, S3, Migration Services)

Salary Range

The proposed salary range for this role is $150,000 to $165,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Karsun considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance.
