Job summary

Flywheel Energy, LLC seeks a Senior Database Administrator to design, develop, and optimize enterprise databases across SQL Server, Azure SQL, and hybrid cloud environments. You will lead migration efforts, support ETL workflows, and ensure data protection and regulatory compliance.

You will troubleshoot Tier 2/3 issues, monitor performance, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable cloud-based data solutions. Documentation and DR planning are also key parts of the role.

Responsibilities

• Database Development: Develop and performance optimize databases on SQL Server and Azure SQL, with exposure to AWS, Databricks and PostgreSQL; automate tasks using T-SQL and SSIS/Python.
• Database Migration: Create and apply migration strategies between Cloud and on-prem systems to keep data platforms running smoothly.
• Database Design and Implementation: Design and manage relational and non-relational databases including schema, indexing, and partitioning for enterprise apps.
• Troubleshooting and Support: Diagnose and resolve issues, providing Tier 2/3 support for data incidents.
• Security and Compliance: Enforce database security policies, access controls, encryption, auditing, and PCI-DSS compliance.
• Performance Monitoring: Monitor performance with SSMS, Prometheus, and related tools; optimize slow queries and resource usage.
• Collaboration: Work with developers and IT teams to integrate databases with apps and ETL workflows for cloud data solutions.
• Documentation: Create detailed database documentation including ER diagrams and data dictionaries.
• Capacity Planning: Evaluate storage needs and plan scaling or migrations for growth.
• Disaster Recovery: Develop, test and maintain replication and failover strategies to minimize downtime and data loss.

Key Responsibilities

• Database Development: Develop and performance optimize databases primarily on SQL Server and Azure SQL platforms, with exposure to AWS and Databricks and PostgreSQL environments; automate daily tasks using T‑SQL and similar administrative tools (SSIS, Python)
• Database Migration: Develop and apply migration strategies between Cloud and on‑prem systems to maintain data platform operations.
• Database Design and Implementation: Design, deploy, and manage relational and non‑relational databases, including schema development, indexing, and partitioning to support enterprise applications.
• Troubleshooting and Support: Diagnose and resolve database issues, such as performance bottlenecks, errors, or failures, providing Tier 2/3 support for data‑related incidents.
• Security and Compliance: Implement and enforce database security policies, including user access controls, encryption, auditing, and adherence to regulations (e.g., PCI‑DSS) to safeguard sensitive data.
• Performance Monitoring: Monitor database performance using tools like SQL Server Management Studio, Oracle Enterprise Manager, or Prometheus, identifying and optimizing slow queries or resource usage.
• Collaboration: Work with developers, analysts, and IT teams to integrate databases with applications, support ETL processes, and enable cloud‑based data solutions.
• Documentation: Create and maintain detailed database documentation, including ER diagrams, data dictionaries, and recovery procedures.
• Capacity Planning: Evaluate current and projected data storage needs, recommending scaling solutions or migrations to accommodate business expansion.
• Disaster Recovery: Develop, test, and maintain Fabric database replication and copy jobs. Design, document, and regularly test failover and disaster recovery strategies to ensure minimal downtime and data loss.
