About the role:
We are looking for an experienced Senior Database Administrator (DBA) who will be responsible for leading the effort in database creation and management for the design, implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical Microsoft SQL Server database systems and DataMart infrastructure. This role ensures high availability, reliability, and optimal performance of all data services supporting the client’s Website Modernization Project.

Project Duration: 2.5 years, with potential for extension
What you'll do:
Serve as key member of the database team managing all operations consistent with database management
Lead the architecture, configuration, and optimization of SQL Server environments in Azure-hosted infrastructure
Perform and troubleshoot SQL Server Backups, Restore Strategies, Replication, SQL Server Performance Tuning and Query Optimization
Design, implement, and manage a centralized DataMart for integrating multiple data sources
Build and maintain SSIS packages and ETL workflows for automated data ingestion and transformation
Implement robust backup and disaster recovery procedures; regularly test restore and failover processes
Enforce security best practices including encryption, role-based access, and data integrity controls
Monitor and troubleshoot database performance issues using monitoring tools and logs
Collaborate with data modelers, developers, and analysts to support application and reporting needs
Maintain documentation and change logs for all database systems and procedures
What you'll need:
Experience: 8+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA in large-scale, enterprise environments
Technologies: SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS, XML, ODS, ETL, DWH, Shell / PowerShell / Bash scripting
Experience in DataMart design and implementation, including normalization and schema design
Proficiency in scripting (PowerShell, Bash) for automation and monitoring tasks
Hands-on experience with SQL Server clustering, high availability groups, and Azure SQL environments
Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills
Familiarity with data governance, data quality assurance, and compliance requirements
Experience working with New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) or other municipal agencies is a plus
Certifications: Relevant Microsoft SQL Server certifications
