Job summary

Seyfarth Shaw LLP is seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator in Houston to support and optimize databases and servers that power mission-critical applications. You will work under the Lead DBA and Data Center Manager, contributing to the Database Administration team.

The role requires deep Microsoft SQL Server and Windows Server administration experience, HA/DR expertise, and cloud database skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required.
• Minimum of five years' work with Microsoft SQL Server and Windows Server senior-level administration experience.
• Expertise with High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL Server.
• Expertise with Azure SQL and other cloud-based database services.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.

Responsibilities

• Support and maintain databases and servers for Microsoft and non-Microsoft database platforms.
• Design highly available systems accessible from multiple data centers to ensure availability.
• Monitor, tune, and manage backups, jobs, recovery processes, alerts, and storage per change control procedures.
• Diagnose faults, troubleshoot, and optimize database and application performance.
• Collaborate within the database administration team and with other Technical Service Group teams.
• Provide regular reports on performance and stability of the database environment and forecast needs.
• Collaborate with other teams to architect database backends for new solutions.
• Document, test, and implement updates to database systems.
• Occasionally work outside of regular business hours for project/operational needs.

The Opportunity The Senior Database Administrator position is responsible for supporting databases and servers which support mission critical applications within the firm. This position reports to the Lead Database Administrator and Data Center and Systems Engineering Manager and works as a contributing member of the Database Administration team.

The Day-To-Day On Any Given Day, You Will

• Support and maintain all databases and servers for Microsoft and non-Microsoft database platforms
• Ensure availability of existing SQL and other operational databases by designing highly available systems available from multiple data centers
• Monitor, tune and manage scheduled tasks, backup jobs, recover processes, alerts, and database storage needs in line with firm change control procedures
• Performs fault diagnosis, troubleshoot, and correct problems at the database and application performance level
• Work in a team environment within the database administration team as well as with other Technical Service Group teams and other departments within the firm
• Provide regular reports on performance and stability of database environment, identifying coming needs proactively to ensure continued reliable service
• Work with other teams and departments architecting database backend to support new solutions as required for project and operational tasks
• Document, develop, test and implement updates to database systems
• Work outside of regular business hours as required for project or operational work

You Have

• A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
