Job summary

SciTec Incorporated in Princeton, NJ seeks a Principal Software Engineer to lead the Data Storage domain. This hands-on role combines deep technical work with engineering stewardship to guide storage choices, design, and practice across teams.

You will establish benchmarks, create reference implementations, and mentor engineers to adopt proven data persistence patterns. We value a decade-plus in production software with strong DB and storage experience, including SQL and NoSQL, plus backend

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physical Sciences, or a related technical field.
• 10+ years of professional experience designing, implementing, and troubleshooting production software systems, including significant experience with data storage systems.
• Deep expertise with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) including schema design and transactional behavior.
• Production experience with search/document stores, caches, or object storage.
• Strong understanding of distributed storage concepts, replication, partitioning, and recovery.

Responsibilities

• Assess current storage technologies, data access patterns, recurring problems, and capability gaps across engineering teams.
• Define evaluation criteria and benchmarks to select and maintain core storage technologies and practices.
• Document recommended technologies and ADRs through ADRs and tuning guides.
• Build validated reference implementations, starter templates, and reusable configurations.
• Guide data modeling, schema design, indexing, and performance optimization.
• Advise on transactional behavior, isolation, and concurrency.
• Establish caching strategies and cache invalidation practices.
• Guide index lifecycle management and object storage organization.
• Lead replication, partitioning, capacity planning, backup and recovery.
• Collaborate with engineers through reviews and workshops to drive adoption of best practices.
• Track adoption and report results to engineering leadership.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
