The ideal candidate will bring a hands-on, solutions-oriented mindset to develop controls that ensure sensitive information is appropriately classified, accessed, stored, and protected throughout its lifecycle. This role offers a unique opportunity to build and operationalize compliance capabilities from the ground up, working closely with teams across security, legal, IT, and risk.

The person in this role will serve as the key operator for data governance initiatives, oversee tooling implementation, and drive policy adherence through reporting, enforcement workflows, and cross-functional alignment. The position requires a high degree of initiative, independence, and technical fluency.

Key Responsibilities

Data Oversight & Control Implementation

  • Design and deploy classification and protection mechanisms aligned to data governance standards.
  • Build workflows that support retention, access control, and handling of sensitive information.
  • Conduct risk assessments related to data access, usage, and sharing.
  • Maintain documentation for compliance control processes and technical enforcement measures.

Program Development

  • Lead the operational rollout of the firm’s data compliance function.
  • Define success metrics, control benchmarks, and reporting structures.
  • Support evaluation and integration of tooling for data classification, loss prevention, and visibility.
  • Establish remediation workflows for data handling violations or exceptions.
  • Investigate data policy violations or incidents and assist with root cause analysis.
  • Collaborate with IT and legal teams to address audit or regulatory inquiries.
  • Maintain audit logs and response documentation for internal and external review.
  • Serve as the interface between the InfoSec team and stakeholders in legal, compliance, privacy, and business units.
  • Provide technical guidance for assessments and broader data-related initiatives.

Analytics & Reporting

  • Develop dashboards and executive-level summaries that reflect compliance posture and risk trends.
  • Document control effectiveness, known risks, and mitigation strategies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Security, Computer Science, or related technical field.
  • 5–7+ years of experience in data protection, privacy operations, or security compliance.
  • Demonstrated success building or leading elements of a data governance or compliance program.
  • Knowledge of relevant frameworks and regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA).
  • Hands-on experience with technologies such as:
  • Data classification tools
  • Endpoint protection and compliance monitoring
  • Understanding of NIST, ISO, and related compliance control frameworks.
  • Certifications such as CISSP, CISA, or CIPP/US are strongly preferred.

Desired Attributes

  • Independent self-starter comfortable in a build-from-scratch environment.
  • Clear communicator who can translate regulatory needs into technical solutions.
  • Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail.
  • Comfortable operating in complex, cross-functional environments with competing priorities.
  • Committed to continuous improvement and scalable program design.

Additional Information

  • This role includes a full benefits package starting day one.
  • Benefits include health/dental/vision, generous parental leave, education reimbursement, backup childcare, wellness stipends, and more.
  • The position supports career growth through structured development programs and mentorship.
  • A strong emphasis is placed on inclusion, community engagement, and innovation.
