Job summary

Focal Systems, a retail AI leader, is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to own end-to-end problems from framing to modeling and rollout. You will work on ambiguous questions, define approaches, and deliver insights that influence product, engineering, and operations.

The role requires strong SQL and Python, experience designing experiments and A/B tests, and the ability to communicate findings to technical and non-technical audiences.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a Data Scientist, Quantitative Analyst, or similar role.
• Strong proficiency in SQL, including complex CTEs, window functions, and query optimization.
• Strong proficiency in Python for data work, including pandas, NumPy, and statsmodels or similar tools.
• Applied statistics: hypothesis testing, regression, experimental design, and uncertainty quantification.
• Experience designing and analyzing A/B tests or controlled experiments in a product setting.
• Experience building predictive models end-to-end (forecasting, classification, or propensity).
• Experience with data visualization and BI tools and turning analyses into narrative.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; able to influence cross-functional partners.

Responsibilities

• Own analytical problems end to end from problem framing to rollout.
• Build predictive and inferential models (forecasts, uplift, survival analyses) that improve product decisions.
• Develop methods for measuring performance, interference impact, and downstream outcomes.
• Partner with Product, Engineering and Operations to define metrics and translate business questions into analyses.
• Audit outputs and provide feedback to improve product accuracy and reliability.
• Communicate findings via dashboards, analyses, and stakeholder presentations.
