The Optum Health Financial Data Management team is looking to hire a Senior Data Scientist to oversee all core analytical activities within Optum Health Finance & Accounting, with an emphasis on designing analytics applications to support the presentation and analytical review of financial information. This role will work closely with business analysts and data engineers to ensure we deliver performant, quality solutions that address customer needs. This includes, but is not limited to analysis, design, coding, testing, documentation, research and development, maintenance, new development, operations and delivery. This also includes evaluating new tools, AI and machine learning applications, new techniques, and strategies; Automation of common tasks; build of common utilities to drive organizational efficiency with a passion around technology and solutions, and influence of thought and leadership on future capabilities and opportunities to apply technology in new and innovative ways.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Work with business to develop and operationalize analytic solutions


• Using common framework(s), build and deploy front-end solutions built upon managed infrastructure to create end-user solutions.


• Engage in communications for all important functions including data understanding/exploration, strategizing solutions etc.


• Work with autonomy and in partnership with other Data Scientists, Data Engineers and Software Engineers to find solutions to complex problems


• Leverage technical / analytical expertise across the enterprise to architect, deploy and oversee analytics and technology solutions


• Prototype new products and solutions around machine learning and innovation


• Ability to articulate and paint a vision, with strong communication and presentation skills, as well as strengths in translating highly complex concepts, results, models and technologies in ways that can be understood by a variety of audiences


• Communicate analytic results and predictive models to business partners


• Apply knowledge of statistics, machine learning, programming, data modeling, simulation, and advanced mathematics to recognize patterns, identify opportunities, pose business questions, and make valuable discoveries leading to prototype development and product improvement

Preferred Qualifications:

• Extensive programming experience with Python/Pyspark or other analytics languages
  


• Experience in analytics / data science in a business or academic context
  


• Demonstrated experience using programming to solve complex technical problems
  


• Demonstrated experience accessing data from various data environments
  


• Experience developing analytical solutions on cloud computing platforms i.e. Azure, Snowflake
  


• Experience applying computational algorithms and statistical methods to structured and unstructured data
  


• Proven ability to break down and clearly define problems
  


• Demonstrated ability to own and deliver projects that deliver real business value
  


• Proven solid communication, presentation and influencing skills

The salary range for this role is $89,800 to $176,700 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
