Job summary

Target is seeking a Sr Data Scientist – Recommendations to design, develop and productionize AI-powered recommendations and personalization systems. You will collaborate with data scientists, ML engineers and product managers to build scalable predictive models powering search, ranking and personalization across Target’s digital experiences.

Applicants should have strong Python/SQL, deep learning experience (PyTorch/JAX), and a track record of evaluating models both offline and online.

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in CS, ML, stats, OR relevant work experience.
• 3+ years building ML models with DL frameworks (PyTorch or JAX).
• Experience building recommendation/personalization/search systems at scale.
• Strong Python and SQL programming skills.
• Experience with optimization, statistics and experimental design.
• Experience with offline/online evaluation on large datasets and A/B tests.
• Knowledge of Spark and large-scale data processing.
• Experience using generative AI tools to accelerate development.
• Ability to explain complex concepts to mixed audiences.
• Proven ability to translate business problems into scalable DS solutions.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with data scientists and ML engineers to build AI-driven recommendations.
• Develop and manage predictive algorithms at scale.
• Push solutions to production and monitor performance.
• Document and present findings to technical and non-technical peers.
• Work in a hybrid/flexible arrangement with on-site and remote days.
