Job summary

Hinge, a leading dating app, is seeking a Data Scientist for its Recommendations team in New York. You will shape the models that influence what millions of users see daily, collaborating with PMs, ML engineers, data scientists, engineering, and user research to run rigorous experiments and uncover insights that drive product strategy.

You will translate objectives into data science problems, apply statistical inference, and surface behavioral insights to guide feature development and model

About the Role

Hinge is seeking a versatile Data Scientist to join our Recommendations team, working at the heart of the algorithms that shape who millions of people see, every day. You'll partner closely with Product Managers, ML Engineers, Data Scientists, Engineering, and User Research, to evaluate and improve our models, using a mix of rigorous experimentation and causal analysis, to uncover insights, design innovative solutions, and influence strategic decisions. Your work will directly shape whether the recommendations we show lead to real, meaningful connections, informing not just what we build, but how we know it's working.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with a cross-functional team of Product Managers, ML engineers, Data Scientists, Engineering, and User Research to develop and iterate on product features and strategy

What We're Looking For

5+ years of experience as data scientist, ideally at a consumer-facing (D2C) company

Experience designing and analyzing experiments

Strong working knowledge of SQL and Python (R is acceptable but we use Python at Hinge)

Strong knowledge of statistics, with a conceptual understanding of ML and curiosity to keep learning

Comfortable balancing rigor with practicality

Excellent collaboration skills and a track record of cross-functional influence

Salary Range

$186,000.00 - $223,000.00 per year salary

Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary range is reflective of a position based in New York City. This salary will be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.

How does compensation work?

Paying our people fairly and equitably is really important to us! We offer packages with three types of compensation depending on role type and level. Most compensation packages at Hinge consist of base salary, annual bonus target percentage and equity in the form of MTCH stock.
