Job summary

GiveDirectly, Inc. is hiring a Senior Data Scientist to advance location inference from mobile network data and to extend their analytical templates. You will specify analyses, test with data engineers, and collaborate with operators across multiple countries.

You will design privacy-preserving methods, communicate findings to diverse audiences, and help scale data-driven programs in crisis contexts. This role is fully remote with substantial international travel.

Qualifications

• Strong mathematical modeling, machine learning and statistics.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Experience writing technical specifications for cross-team implementation.
• Ability to read and review SQL and Python code.
• Commitment to privacy by design and data minimization.
• Willingness to travel internationally as needed.
• Poverty modeling experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Improve and extend our library of analytical method templates for locating where people live from MNO data.
• Support discussions with operators and steer technical designs.
• Assess inferable information from operator data and adjust analyses by geography.
• Write tests and method specifications for data engineers to implement.
• Guide operator teams through implementation, balancing accuracy and constraints.
• Run in-country workshops to support analyses and parameter tuning.
• Incorporate new elements into standard templates for faster starts elsewhere.
• Design privacy-preserving approaches and data-sharing controls.
