Senior Data Scientist - IS Clinical Research - Full Time 8 Hour Days (Exempt) (Non-Union)

Under the direction of Information Services Leadership, the incumbent will serve as a senior member of the Enterprise Data Science team. They will build the framework, standards, and processes necessary to perform an agile data science function at Keck Medicine of USC. Responsibilities include solving healthcare challenges through design, data cleansing, algorithm creation, and interpretation of results. The role involves collaborating with clinical, operational, and research stakeholders to identify opportunities and implement AI solutions that enhance patient care, operational efficiency, and clinical research. Mentoring junior data scientists, researching and implementing AI algorithms, and maintaining data are also key aspects of this position.

Essential Duties

1. Design and develop complex machine learning models and statistical algorithms for clinical and research outcomes.
2. Configure large language models (LLM), including RAG implementation and fine-tuning.
3. Lead and mentor junior data scientists in extracting and analyzing large datasets.
4. Create detailed design analysis specifications for data and algorithms.
5. Develop and implement scalable AI algorithms on clinical data records.
6. Work with stakeholders to identify opportunities and implement AI solutions to improve healthcare and research.
7. Ensure AI algorithms are explainable and compliant with organizational review processes.
8. Monitor industry trends and recommend new AI tools and capabilities.
9. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align data science initiatives.
10. Research and integrate state-of-the-art AI algorithms and tools.
11. Maintain data in accordance with industry standards.
12. Provide insights and analytics to support organizational decision-making.
13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Ph.D. or equivalent in data science, statistics, computer science, or related field, OR
• Master’s degree with 5 years’ experience, OR
• Bachelor’s degree with 7 years’ experience.

• Experience implementing data science/AI solutions from ideation to production.
• Proficiency in data mining, statistical modeling, programming languages (Python, R, SQL, Spark).
• Experience with large language models and data visualization tools like Tableau.
• Ability to communicate insights effectively to non-data scientists.
• Experience with AWS Sagemaker or similar platforms.
• Mentoring and leadership skills in agile projects.

Preferred Qualifications

• Relevant certifications or licenses, such as Fire Life Safety Training (LA City).

The annual salary range is $133,120 - $219,648. USC considers various factors when extending offers, including experience, education, skills, and market conditions.
