Job summary

Pinterest is seeking a Data Scientist to join the Infrastructure Data Science team in San Francisco. You will partner with engineering and cross-functional teams to make Pinterest’s infrastructure measurable, intelligible, and actionable, spanning app performance, metrics quality, and site reliability.

You will build data foundations, measurement systems, and analytical frameworks to optimize core systems and inform product and infrastructure decisions with rigorous experimentation and analysis.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of combined post-graduate academic and industry experience applying scientific methods to large-scale data.
• Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in CS or equivalent.
• Strong SQL and analytical programming skills for messy data and reliable metrics.
• Experience contributing to production-ready data pipelines and measurement systems.
• Solid foundation in experimentation and measurement; able to design analyses and interpret results.
• Strong cross-functional communication to explain findings to engineers and stakeholders.
• Ability to translate ambiguous problems into analytical workstreams.
• Independent, proactive with a builder mindset.

Responsibilities

• Partner with engineering and cross-functional teams to improve how Pinterest measures, understands, and optimizes its infrastructure.
• Build and refine metrics, dashboards, and analytical frameworks that make complex systems more understandable.
• Strengthen data foundations by improving metric definitions, auditing data quality, and contributing to pipelines and measurement improvements.
• Design and analyze experiments to quantify impact of infrastructure changes on user experience, reliability, and business outcomes.
• Translate ambiguous technical problems into clear analyses and recommendations for engineering teams.
• Support high-priority investigations and decisions on infrastructure performance, reliability, cost, and measurement quality.
• Identify opportunities to improve infrastructure measurement across domains like performance, governance, and site reliability.
